Short answer, no, of course we aren’t safer. Making us safer would require uniting the country, and making significant investments in infrastructure. Pretty hard to do when your raison d’etre is division, tax cuts and taking care of your cronies. As long as the oil companies can continue raking in record profits, Bush & co don’t give two hoots about what happens to America.

Ah yes, “enhanced interrogation”. I don’t know if this is a historically authentic term, but in Robert Harris’s novel Fatherland, set in a victorious Third Reich, the Gestapo practises “heightened interrogation”.

Torture?..we don’t torture….we prefer “enhanced interrogations”. And Hitler prefered ” resettlement of the Jews” as a final solution.

America, look at yourself! You’ve given away your birth right to protection under the law. Now the president or his lackies can destroy any American( or human being) on a whim and hide it all behind national security. Jose Padilla isn’t the big loser in this story.. We are.
