[...] Yet last December I quoted a Time magazine article (no longer free content) in which the White House seemed at a loss to think of something to do. The plan is to make January a critical month in what the President’s aides hope will be a turning-point year. The White House expects a quick victory on Bush’s Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito, and the State of the Union speech will nod to big goals. But when it comes to fresh and concrete ideas, the list of what Bush will actually try to accomplish in 2006 is so modest that one bewildered Republican adviser calls it “an insult to incrementalism.” … [...]

As for Ms. Clinton's Goldilocksian Gabble for-and-against a "timetable"...

That bullshit sounds exactly like something Laura Bush might say...

Who the fuck is "that woman" think she's kidding?

Hillary's sinking fast...

Quick, somebody - throw her an anchor!

A healthy dose of good, old fashioned populism - economic populism is certainly the ticket IMHO. Out here in the hinterland of northern Illinois folks are in the 'throes' of a sickly economy. This area is ripe for a 'community' message and will probably ignore Bush's 'new groove' - whatever it is. Out here we have more practicaly things to worry about. But national Democratic party folks need to pay attention to what's going on out here. Here in the Illinois 16th House district we have a strong, viable Democratic candidate to challenge Republican lackey Don Manzullo. We need national party support for Richard Auman who recently completed a scond term as major of Galena, Illinois. There's much talk from Howard Dean about a 50 state strategy. We need a demonstration of that strategy out here in northern Illinois. Dick Auman is no centrist. He's progressive, he's caring, and he values getting the job done for his constituents. He's also very clear about Iraq - get it over with and bring the kids home! That's an agenda all Democrats should rally 'round. So, let the GOP search high and low for a 'new groove' or a new agenda or whatever. The rest of us - you know, those of us in the reality based community - should have one agenda... beat every one of them at the polls in November, 2006.

As important as a message is to use language the way the rethugs have done. Our candidates cannot attack Reupublicans in those terms. We have already discussed here the tribal mindset they have so when you say the problems we have are caused by republicans it is a personal attack on someone who identifies with being a republican and not just the office holder. Somoene who may be persuaded to vote for other than GOP if they don't believe campaigning is a personal attack....
