[...] This isn’t actually news — I’ve been ranting about it for years (such as here and here) — but it’s in the news. Elisabeth Rosenthal writes in yesterday’s New York Times – A comprehensive global study of abortion has concluded that abortion rates are similar in countries where it is legal and those where it is not, suggesting that outlawing the procedure does little to deter women seeking it. In order for demographics to account for these additional births while actually not preventing abortions, it would mean that there are an equal number of women with money who are currently NOT getting abortions when they abortions are legal who are only deciding to get abortions for which they have to travel out of state once they are illegal. That is the only way that out-of-state abortions would offset the additional births this study showed so that the total number of abortions remains the same. By posting this article, you refuted one of the key points you've been trying to make since you've been posting here. And I do find it offensive the legislators are so easily pushed off of their pro-life stance. But that's an easy point without need for much discussion. The more important point of this article is that it shows that making abortions illegal prevents abortions. Imagine that. May I point out that it is the legislators' estimates of the number of increase in births, and legislators' belief in the outcome of their passing laws is often off the mark. It is commonly known that legislators believe that the mere act of passing a law changes the actions of the populace. Perhaps you are too young to remember when legislators changed speed limits to 55mph in order to save gasoline; I will remind you that very few obeyed the speed limits. Kind of like prohibition of which you might have heard. One only needs to look at Latin America where abortion is criminal to see what effect criminalizing abortion has on abortion rates.
[...] I have written in the past (such as here) why I think abortion should be legal, at least until the fetus is viable. My opinion is based mostly on the effects of abortion law in the lives of women. You might notice I don’t spin my wheels much over the question of morality, since I’ve come to see that morality depends on the state of mind in which one acts as much as the act itself. People do “good” things for selfish reasons, and “bad” things for altruistic reasons. Judge not, lest ye be judged. [...]

The most telling sign that they don't actually care about babies and care more about controlling those "trashy" women who want and expect to enjoy sex is that they don't support programs that support children AFTER they are born. Who gives a shit if they have healthcare, are fed, sheltered, clothed, and educated; you could even show them children dying in poverty and they'll ignore it. Suffering and even slow agonizing death is ok and as God intended, instead of letting women decide when they will be mothers and if they can care for any possible children.

The link above to the NARAL fact sheet is interesting. It shows that Alito really isn't too slick in hiding an agenda. Maybe he's tightened up his legal acumen in the past 20 years, but his attempt to decieve was weak in that legal interpetation.

I agree, a women's right to choose has become a control issue. If anybody feels that the protection of the unborn is the true issue, than they should stand on that belief alone and not resort to schemes and deceptions to defend that belief.

Men aren't obsessed with sex. They're obsessed with fetishes (no, not a typo for fetis, read on) of body parts or women's clothing, etc., that let them feel in control of another human by objectifying part of her to replace their having to reconcile with the fact that she's a whole person...most men. In fact, many psychologists claim that fetishes are a weird thing that is normal. Huh.

>>>"You aren’t going to budge the anti-abortion lawmakers with sordid tales of maternal mortality, of course, because they don’t care if women die. It’s more important to control women’s behavior and punish them for being sexual than to care about their health and well-being."

Sorry for getting distracted and goofing on our friend Justme a bit ( no harm intended), Maha. As a father of a 13 year old girl, I am very concerned about what might happen if Alito, or someone even more militant gets in.
As a man, I would suggest that if you don't want kids, have your husband or partner "fixed". After my daughter was born ( she was unplanned, but a true blessing!) my wife asked me to get clipped, since she had carried the birth control for the previous 18 years.
I thought that was fair. It was no real big deal, but I never imagined I'd like frozen peas so much! I went back to work a bit early and threw my back out, out side of that, no sweat.I guess that (among other things) makes me a custom model
