What’s Wrong With This Picture?

Alert reader Leigh Trail flagged this Associated Press story from the Dark Ages:

The American Medical Association is warning girls not to go wild during spring break. All but confirming what goes on in those “Girls Gone Wild” videos, 83 percent of college women and graduates surveyed by the AMA said spring break involves heavier-than-usual drinking, and 74 percent said the break results in increased sexual activity.

The women’s answers were based both on firsthand experience and the experiences of friends and acquaintances.

Sizable numbers reported getting sick from drinking, and blacking out and engaging in unprotected sex or sex with more than one partner, activities that increase their risks for sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies.

See if you can guess which words do not appear anywhere in this story:

1. “men”

2. “boys”

3. “males”

4. all of the above

(Answer at the bottom of this post.)

In other news — what Molly says. Righteous!

  1. I’m with Molly.

I’m proud that my home state of Wisconsin had the sense to elect Feingold.

  2. Molly Ivins got it absolutely right about the D.C. Dems. We need to exorcise Hillary and replace her with some straight-talkin’ females from beyond the beltway.

  3. I’m adding Molly to my favorites – thanks Maha. Not only are we sick of the the nominee being decided before the first primary vote – how about being decided before there are any declared candidates. If Hillary is nominated, we can thank the media and the ignorant. As we now know, when people hear something long enough and often enough – they will believe. In fact, if I believed in such things, I would think that this whole idea was a right wing conspiracy because if Hillary is nominated, she will surely lose. She would be the republicans best chance. I’m with Molly and Steve (#1) – Russ Feingold. He has charisma and he has a spine!

  4. The AMA may have cast its warning at women, on the theory that women are more likely to pay attention to the warning than men are. Men are notorious for not being able to think once most of the blood in their bodies moves south.

  5. Molly Ivans dares mention Feingold. Since he was the only one who voted against the war, he is in a favored position.
I watched the vote on CSpan and was astounded to hear strong arguments against followed by votes for. What was mesmerizing those leaders? I could only assume that what they had been secretly told was compelling. Now, we know differently. Their votes are even more mindboggling! Would you want any one of them to lead the country?

I like the three issues Molly designates. Focus on those will make a lot of sense.

Bypass John Edwards and take another look at his wife. She has qualities I’d like in a president.

  6. I saw this article yesterday and I had the same reaction. “Girls should not go on Spring Break, because boys will be there?”

Well, you can bet that my daughter will not be allowed to go on organized orgies, but shouldn’t somebody’s momma be talking to her son, too?

Oh, I forgot. These people think men can’t help themselves, and are therefore blameless. Somehow they believe that women are the only members of the species who have responsibility. Don’t even get me started.
