Maher Arar's attorney's phone number is in the Ottawa phone book. For all I know Arar's may be there too. Not that hard for De Vries to find him. No serious person disputes his account of rendition to Syria for torture. Why do we let the evil ones dispute information that is indisputable?

So Sunday has rolled around again and despite my best efforts to kick the habit, I'll be watching the talking heads. I can hardly wait to see the tortured Republican sock puppets swiftboat McCarthy. Leaking is BAD. Illegal. Gives comfort to our enemies in our war against terra. See, there are no secret prisons, it was a sting operation. So she was caught leaking lies. Hmmmm. Maybe she'll have to serve only five years instead of the ten that's required if she leaked the truth?

And no, Cheney was not sleeping in that photo, he was reading his notes. And no, Condi wasn't nodding off either, she was THINKING. I don't know why the press seems to go out of its way to smear the Government of the United States. Don't they know that Osama feels so good when he sees treasonous stuff like this?

Whoa. Maybe I should rethink my habit. Turn to something else.

On EuroSport is the marathon Snooker Championship that's been on a week and will last another. Ever watch snooker? It's like eight-ball pool only different 'cause there's no eight ball. You need to be young, extremely well coordinated, and acutely intelligent and analytical to consistently win at this game.

Which is a profound contrast to that cesspool of criminal incompetency that marks the fascists who are currently in control in Washington.

EuroSport, here I come!

I have not read the Priest story, but if it was about the existence or secret US prisons in foreign nations, then there could hardly be a violation of any secrecy laws or agreements, because those prisons do not exist. Right?

That's why the righties have decided it must have been a sting operation. Phony memos about secret prisons were strewn temptingly around the CIA office in order to catch employees in the act of leaking.

Was McCarthy really arrested?

No, I misspoke. The Justice Department is still investigating, however.

Oh yeah. Just what "information" would McCarthy have leaked? I have not read the Priest story, but if it was about the existence or secret US prisons in foreign nations, then there could hardly be a violation of any secrecy laws or agreements, because those prisons do not exist. Right? Hasn't that been the official position? And hasn't Porter -- pause -- Goss himself spilled the beans by acknowledging the accuracy of whatever was leaked? That, too, is probably a criminal offense if the information was classified. Of course, if this firing is the result of a sting operation, and if there was no actual classified info disclosed by McCarthy, then at best she will have been canned for lying during her pollyannagraph exam.

When I read about de Vries behavior, I was reminded of Pat Robert's use of his position to stonewall any investigative conclusions about the Bush administration's twisting of intelligence in the run-up to the Iraq fiasco.

I wonder what a 'follow the money' probe would determine about both Roberts and de Vries.

You mentioned, in your first paragraph, an "arrest." Was McCarthy really arrested? Charged with what? Bonded out? Other than this side issue which would be interesting only to an anal retentive lawyer like myself, this was a fine post, bringing a lot of strands together. Need more on who leaked McCarthy's name and whether or not Porter (I ALWAYS have to pause after his name because of my inclination to follow it with Waggoner) Goss has his briefs in a twist about that violation.
