Instead of adding Hayden to the indictment for his complicit illegality of Bush's brazen ignorance of the rule of law, the Pres and his cadre have the audacity to put him in charge of CIA. Wow! How do these lawbreakers continue to get away with it, how complacent have "we the people" become? Sad times my friends, where are the true partiots?

Maha said"Senators, for once, do your job."......

I laughed so hard when I read that soda came out of my nose....

The senate has failed "we the people" every single time our fate was left in their hands for the past 6 years...

When you tell a senator to do their jobs what they hear is rubber stamp whatever dear leader wishes.. they think making the presidents every whim a reality is their job...the most recent examples are the NSA spygate investigation which started with hand wringing over the violation of law and our constitutional rights and is now ending with senators "making a deal"(WTF??) that will make the illegal acts legal after the fact.. and legal as long as dear leader wants to spy... that is the kinda "job" we are going to get.And the tax cuts... with our debt? geez, the great enablers..that was "a heck of a job brownie" is the kinda job we will get from the senate on this and every issue important to America......

Oh.....replace that last sentence above with, "After 9/11, Hayden rejected this system to install a system that bypasses those checks on nefarious activities."

I'll add here that I think the information exposed in the Baltimore Sun may be part of the reason Karl and Bush reversed themselves in trying to separate Hayden from the NSA story.

the Baltimore Sun has an article entitled, "NSA Killed System that Sifted Phone Data Legally" The link is at TPM. As I read this article, it said NSA had created a program by 1998 that was meant to thwart potential terrorist trouble for the millennium date. This program, called Thin Thread, did data mining, but included 1]encrypting all phone numbers so that the information protected citizens' privacy, 2] overseeing analysis of 'patterns' so that analysts had a check on their activities, and 3] only allowing a reverse of the encryption via a court review and issue of warrants.
After 9/11, Hayden bypassed this system to install a system that bypasses those checks on nefarious activities.

Karl realised he was wrong. A confrontation on the NSA wiretaps would have been a disaster. There was no way to defend them ethically, Constitutionally or legally.

I'm sure the latest phone call data mining revelations also factored into his decision.
