I think lefty blogs scare a lot of people who are used to being in control. "Democracy is untidy," as one of their own once said. The were winning the game of "talk radio" but this is round two and I think the Blogs are a democratic work in progress.

"Fascism" is a ruined word. I admit to throwing it around a bit too freely. But, I don't want to quibble over the fine points while Rome burns. David Neiwert's articles are great, so are George Monbiot's and Umberto Eco's. They come from different perspectives. Monbiot asserts that we are really seeing a manifestation of puritanism, not fascism, and given our religious heritage, he's got a good point. David Neiwert in his series on the subject used the KKK as an example of a genuine fascist movement. I wouldn't argue with him.

But, IIRC, in using the KKK as an example, he points out that it, like everything, was a product of it's times. It was fascism as expressed in a devastated, rural, agrarian environment. If Italian Fascism is the basic template, that occurred in the context of an industrial society. How would fascism look in a post industrial, "information age" society with a much higher level of technological development?

Beats the hell out of me.

I've forgotten the name of the rule, but it'a about the first one to bring up fascism loses the argument. As you mentioned, Maha.

That "noisy bleating of his [Kos's] followers" line was written before or after David Brooks's "venomous" "rabid lambs" description?

Who is directing these writers in their metaphors and comparisons?

How easy it is for guys like Siegel to complain about his critics without understanding this is something we have lived with for a very long time. Hasn't he heard of Ann Coulter or Rush Limbaugh, etc., who have been calling any one who believes differently than they names worse than he was called by these so-called "fascists" he refers to. He is just like them. And, I don't have to listen or put up with the crap he spews.

Somewhere in there they call on that goliath David Brooks....

Sunday
http://select.nytimes.com/2006/06/25/opinion/25brooks.html?pagewanted=print

...

They say that the great leaders are gone and politics has become the realm of the small-minded. But in the land of the Lilliputians, the Keyboard Kingpin must be accorded full respect.

The Keyboard Kingpin, a k a Markos Moulitsas Zúniga, sits at his computer, fires up his Web site, Daily Kos, and commands his followers, who come across like squadrons of rabid lambs, to unleash their venom on those who stand in the way. And in this way the Kingpin has made himself a mighty force in his own mind, and every knee shall bow.

I have been 'directed' by the all-powerful Kos to take care of this ignorant fool...whoops, can't say anything nasty that just feeds into the paradigm Mr. AssClown is trying to build.

Honestly, who cares what TNR publishes....

As the dread Kos said quite wittily, and this is why TNR and the rest of the dead media are up in arms, 'don't worry about them...they're irrelevant...'

And so they are.

And the more the publish such drooling, spin-drenched idiocy as you have posted here the more folks will realise that.

Me...I'm off to get busy undermining everything.
