  1. What’s interesting is that he thought to put it all together. We’ve all seen pieces of it — the lies about soldiers being spat upon, “the media lost Vietnam,” “Who lost China?” etc.

  2. Authoritarian’s trumpet triumphalism. Liberal’s orchestrate realism.

Bush, “Yalta come and see what Ah’ve done!”
    This article is brilliant.
But, how do you get a coward to see his cowardly ways?
    We’re the traitor’s? What about you Neo-clown’s?
But, of course, it will never be the fault of “Conservatism!” It will be that Shrub, and Darth Vader, and the sycophantic Congress and Supreme Court weren’t conservative ENOUGH!
“Oh, if only they had followed the true tenet’s of Conservativism, we’d have won.
It’s all the fault of the “Jew” York Times and the Washington “Post the Lie’s.”
The Liberal’s have stabbed us in the back again because they didn’t join us in the goose-step!
WE were right, no matter the fact’s. You were wrong if you opposed this from the start. What were you thinking??? If you hadn’t opposed it, it would have worked!!! What part of that can’t you understand?!?
We need a true Conservative Administration, Congress and Supreme Court to make it all work. These branches all stabbed us in the back in the last few year’s!!!”
Republican’s remind me of children. Even after they broke something, they lie. Their hand’s in the cookie jar, they lie.
That’s the only thing they’re good at – lying.
November – vote! And pray the machines are accurate. If not, there may have to be a 2nd American Revolution…
I’m sick to death of this $#!t!!!

PS: Maha, thank’s ever so much for the “Preview!”

  3. Very informative articles.. a lot to digest. I found that the mention of the POW/MIA flag was interesting, I never saw it as a perpetuation of myth, but now that it’s been pointed out it does appear to serve little purpose other than a reinforcement of myth.

I also found some encouragement in the authors observation about Bush’s little war going south because of no participation requirement in a national sacrifice — an extremely validate point. No victory gardens, no victory? At least tonight I feel confident that Bush/Cheney will be brought low in the end and America will return to her senses.
In a way, I can respect Rove’s cunning in capitalizing on the events of 9/11 to further his political goals, but I can’t respect the shortsighted and temporal nature of his work. Work that will perish before he does. I view this whole political episode of the past 5 years as the equivalent to a junkie trying to get their fix. There’ll be nothing enduring or of value that will last past the satisfaction of the moment.
Oh yeah, almost forgot… I hope that Cheney’s heart gives out and he steps into eternity so he can claim his well deserved front row seat in Hell.

  4. Let’s call it what it is: a colossal failure of education.

Recall the apocryphal Gandhi anecdote. When asked by a journalist, on one of his visits to London, what he though of Western civilzation, the Mahatma supposedly pretended to think for a moment, and then replied, “I think it would be a FINE idea.”

I think what we a learning is that democracy would be a fine idea, except that it absolutely requires truly effective universal education on a scale, and to a standard, that has never even been envisioned., let alone attempted. Try it with less, and what you get–sooner or later–is totalitarianism. I do not expect anyone in particular to follow me to the conclusion that that outcome discredits the experiment.
