  1. Hawks view everything in terms of threats and conflict. As a liberal I’m all too aware of the “war of ideas” that’s been going on inside this country for the last twenty or more years, but really has its origins back to the country’s founding. It’s just intensified in recent decades, seizing institutional power to the point where it is corrupting and destroying our country as we knew it.

Of course this internal “war” isn’t the same as the one fought with guns and bullets where people are getting maimed and killed, and I think that’s your point. But the two wars do indeed feed each other, and they both are quite real. Every physical manifestation begins with an idea in somebody’s head.

Another aspect of this, another way to say it: Bush is fighting two wars, the one against “enemies” abroad and the one against enemies at home : the common citizenry who don’t buy his worldview. And the blogosphere is most definitely part of this latter battle. Of this latter war the only thing missing is the bloodshed. So far.

  2. Thanks, moonbat, for the ‘scorecard’ link. I for one have been at a loss to keep all the players straight.

  3. That buddies list is slightly off … partly because rightly speaking, nearly every single one of the boxes outside of the Israel line should be “It’s Complicated”. PLO and Lebanon, fer instance … only reason PLO relocated to Lebanon is because Jordan KICKED the PLO OUT … and Lebanon didn’t have the strength to do likewise. *shrug* But then that’s the middle east in a nutshell … “it’s complicated”…
