Those Florida hurricanes may have helped Bush. Don't forget, his brother Jeb just happens to be our governor. HOWEVER....
There WAS once a sign on I-75 in Charolotte County that read "This Is Bush Country", the sign is gone.In the wake of those hurricanes came drastic rises in property insurance, and many people got their insurance cancelled. Since the hurricanes, real estate down here got red hot, reminds me of L.A. county in '89, but the difference is the lack of high paying jobs that So Cal has.
Florida is mostly service orientated, although there is a growing cluster around the defense industry in Orlando and Brevard County.
Our Real Estate market is currently "correcting" which means speculators are like a dog shitting razor blades because they can't "flip" properties like they could last year making $50,000.00 in six months., and nobody wants to "lease" from the pool of available houses. People got stupid and greedy, but reality is setting in.Things will get real "interesting" when the market flatlines and we have all those Mexican and Guatemalan laborers and sheet-rockers competing with the locals for construction jobs.
When people get pissed off about the economy, they blame the president.Everyone I know is REALLY pissed at Bush over big oil having record profits and gas being nearly $3.50 per gal last summer. They think big oil and Bush are in Cahoots, go figure.
It's like, we invaded a country for cheap gas, now we're paying over three bucks a gallon and wasting money and soldiers to bring democracy to people that want us dead, WTF?
Karma is a bitch

It is sad to think that if Tom Reynolds was not in trouble we would not have gotten a disaster declaration here. Funny, how they held off announcing it, wonder what Tom had to give up. The good news is we have plenty of wood chip mulch, but you have to come and get it.

Exactly - Dems want to use stem cells to clone terrorists then allow them to cross the mexican border so they can grant them amnesty, give them cheap student loans, and pay them $7.25/hour to plot attacks against this country.

Just as I suspected.

..the moral is, if your community is going to be hit by a major disaster, be sure it’s right before an important election that Republicans might lose.

Hey, it worked when Florida got hit by four hurricanes in 2004. After spending millions for disaster relief, Florida went for Bush that year. Too bad for New Orleans and Katrina in 2005 - no election looming with no votes in the balance.

I was wondering if there's any logic to returning the Fairness Doctrine. Since it's been eliminated, the diviseness in this country has increased. Or would this make no difference?
