  1. Yeah! a total thrashing..

and I think Lieberman got religion through the process…. 🙂

  2. Well now…….THIS is the news I was waiting for……..can you almost here the country sigh in relief?

This morning I watched my GOP neighbor rip her signs out of the yard and pitch them in the trash…She looked around to see who was watching , almost like she was ashamed of her candidate choices.Yesterday she told neighbors, with regard to her signs, that she was just saying “what everyone else was thinking”….um…oops, turns out not so much!………as I watched her I couldn’t help but wonder what she must be thinking today.

Stuck in a car(as luck would have it not for long) during the hannity(insannity)radio show I was struck by his lack of a grip on reality..STILL!He blames the loss on the republicans lack of an immigration plan, then not funding the one they finally did come up with…but he tells the party faithful NOW is when they must come together and fight the hardest, declaring “WE still have the final say”….I screamed at insannity in the car”Who the fuck is we?”…I mean get a grip buddy…he is not even in his wettest dream a part of the “we” that he was speaking of..his is their useful idiot(and not near as useful as they thought)…and someone should tell that bone head the WE that counts HAD our final say on the matter yesterday….But what he said really does throw down the glove, doesn’t it?The little group of “WE” at the whitehouse has already decided it is they who are in control..not we the people…what insannity doesn’t get is EXACTLY that thinking is what lost them the elections, no matter how his tiny mind trys to blame it on this or that issue(a few of the other scapegoats were that voters were angry that the GOP failed to make the tax cuts perm/ and failed to start drilling in Anwar…wow he is full of it or clueless?)..

Here’s to the return to checks and balance…..and boy do we need it!

  3. I’m still a little confused about the numbers. Shouldn’t they be (D) 50, (R) 49, (I) 1?

How much should the Dems care about how Lieberman votes? Why hold primary elections if Lieberman renders them pointless by rejoining the Dems? It seems to me it’s in the party’s best interest to wash their hands of the little creep.

And, I know it’s a silly notion, but are there any disaffected moderate Rs who could be convinced to switch parties? (Ever the ludicrous optimist, I guess.)

  4. Congratulations to Maha and her peers – who fought hard to get the truth out and mobilize the troops. Wasn’t it Churchhill speaking of a different tyrant who said?

“It is not the end. It is not even then beginning of the end. But it is perhaps the end of the beginning.”

  5. Omigod, doesn’t this mean…. we get to pry that 3-years overdue report out of Pat Robert’s paws, you know the Senate Intelligence Committee report on HOW the ‘intelligence’ was used/misused to get us into the Iraq War?

Both the House and the Senate now in Democratic hands. Wow, its so big and wonderful a change that I find it hard to wrap my mind around it. First, I guess I need to uncramp my sensibilities which got too used to cringing at the assaults on America coming from unchecked Republicans.

  6. Oops….did I say something wrong in my last comment?Sorry. What a great win for our country…..looks like karls fuzzy math didn’t add up….

And what is this I heard about rush saying he was carrying water for candidates who didn’t deserve it????He was carrying something alright,,I am just not sure it was water.

  7. I’ve been watching MSNBC and CNN today, and the pundits are saying that the Democrats will not do much about conducting investigations because they won’t want to seem obstructive! We elected them to do investigations, and they’d better. And they’d better get rid of the Military whatever-it’s-called act, and the Patriot Act, and reinstate our rights and our constitution.

  8. You got that right, Donna… We’ve been waiting patiently for that elusive report. Last I heard was it just needed a little tweaking and it would be coming shortly..that was about a year ago. For some unknown reason I don’t feel like its going to jive with my understanding of events. I’m expecting —if it ever comes— a whitewash because I’ve lost faith in my government for accountability and honesty even if it’s presented or undertaken as bi-partisan.

  9. WOW!!! Has Hell started to freeze over?? This was way more than I hoped for. At least some states wised up, but not dear old South Carolina. Red to the bloody end.

  10. Frankly, I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself. I’m so used to being angry all the time at the obstructionist ways of the old House and Senate. My kids already don’t recognize the new me as I walked – I mean floated – around the house today wearing a great big shit-grin.

Other realities are sure to burst my temporary bubble. But if Pelosi and Reid can manage to live up to their promises of working in a bipartisan way (payback will be sooo tempting), maybe my newfound contentment can last well into 2008 and beyond. I will thank them for that – and so will my children.

  11. Yes, Santa Claus, there is a Virginia!

In a related story, a frost advisory has been issued for the Hell area. Hey, even Arizona is half blue today, and Janet Napolitano uttlerly crushed the fundie lunatic rethug challenger Len Munsil. Halle-friggin-lujah!

  12. I don’t trust the Republicans. There is too little complaining and back biting. They are up to something. No doubt, they think the Democrats having the House and Senate will help them in 2008. Those who wanted to go back to divided government will not want a Democrat president and House and Senate. I can forsee a return to 1994 when a Clinton was president and the Congress turned over.

  13. Maybe, a bit of fine-tuning. I don’t want to be a nit-picker, but also I don’t want us to catch that disease that has spread among a lot of hard righties. The symptoms of the political spin disease that I try to stay alert to are: using sweeping labels to diss others, sloganeering, focusing on ‘winning’ the next ‘play’ to the exclusion of dealing with whatever is at hand to do, and hiding or making excuses for errors.

America’s been suffering from a rovian-strategized Republican ‘leadership’ team which merged itself with a cabal of Enron/Delay/K Street/Abramhoff thieves busily stealing the public purse,
1]who ‘won’ by slamming/dissing/ignoring/bypassing all Democrats,
2]who used power recklessly, arrogantly, and immorally,
3]who projected adolescent team-worship instead of compentency,
4]whose runaway hubris threatened to wreck even the structure of our constitutional foundation, and
5] who unabashedly decided that it was alright to create a ‘permanent majority’ at the expense of half the country’s people.

Thank God that citizen cops pulled them over in this election. Let the consequences of this arrest sift the Republicans of integrity from the Republicans who succumbed to ‘power trumps everything’ politics.

BTW, anyone else watch Karl Rove’s face during the Bush speech?

  14. justme — be assured you were not banned. The automatic spam filter has it in for you. I hope I’ve fixed the problem.

  15. Spam I am! heehee!

You know, I may be jumping ahead of things here, but I was wondering about the military vote.In the past several elections we here from the MSM parrots that the military overwhelmingly supports the GOP candidates.Normally we hear this right away..the GOP must hand open the ballots because they are always so fast to tell us how much that our fighting men and women love the GOP, and yet this election not a word anywhere before, during or after the elections about the military vote at all…..is it just me or do you find this weird also?

P.S. Thanks Maha for un-spamming me, I will try to be good…gosh it is hard not to gloat just a little(or a lot)…..I feel like ranting like the late Sam Kennison would only with politics…OHHHH OHHHHHHHHH OHHHHHHHHHH!I am trying to be good, but the righties have made it pretty damn hard given their actions over the past 6 years….Till I can behave I better stay on a short leash..I decided to allow myself one week of personal gloating, butt shaking, and general childish behavior, but I will keep it to myself…but just know I am doing it..hehe.

  16. They don’t have the numbers to override any vetoes, they don’t have a plan, and they don’t have any balls either. Though it saddens me to say it, we’ve only made a very tiny step forward.

You must be new here. I’ve gone on and on about how taking back Congress in 2006 is only a first baby step to returning our sick political culture to health. However, it’s a necessary first baby step.

Or maybe not even that. Maybe we’ve only stalled the backwards slide, a little bit.

Speaking as an old lady who’s seen a lot of stuff, I think both the Dems and the nation are sick of rightie whackjobs and want to get serious about governing again. I think we may be at the beginning of a pendulum swing back in our direction.

  17. Welcome Back, Justme. We were all afraid your bird died and you were in mourning.

The veto power is not important. He has only used the veto pen one time in 6 years. Put up fair legislation, minimum wage and reverse the gift to the Rx industry and DARE the pres to veto the bill. If we pick the right issues we define what’s right – I mean correct – in Dem ideology. If we pick the wrong issues we braid the rope they wil hang us with in ’08.
