<i>If white’s are ok with some black’s but not others wouldn’t that lead you to believe that it is in fact not skin color but something deeper that causes seperation in our country?</i>

Race is a social construct, as is racism. That means it's not really about physical differences, like skin color. It's about social distinctions and inequalities created by ignorance and prejudice..

<i>Another item I would like answered is why is it necessary to have the title of African American? </i>

My understanding is that a lot of Americans with African ancestry prefer that to some other nomenclatures. I don't see why anyone but the hopelessly anal would have a problem with it.

I am well...I mean....are you for real? The song was about Jackson feeling upset that he was not considered, "the first articulate BLACK canidate" by the democrat party. Furthermore I have found more racism in this column and post's than I even expected. Racism is seperation because of race. "PERIOD" I realize that some black people went through a tremendous struggle with slavery, but to act today like they were alone or even the most numerous in this struggle is ludicrous. White's, latino's, asians, and indians all shared in this dark time in the histrory of our country. We have all had our own stuggles in life and black people are in no way special or should they be treated thus. One of the first parts of this column caught my eye in that it stated that white's are ok with some blacks ie; Colin Powel but still have a problem with skin color. I mean if that is not oxymoronic I am confounded. If white's are ok with some black's but not others wouldn't that lead you to believe that it is in fact not skin color but something deeper that causes seperation in our country? Now, before you retort with something like "well, they (White's) only like black people who act white." remember that would be a racsist thing to say. Another item I would like answered is why is it necessary to have the title of African American? That title does not reflect skin color or country of origin, unless of course Charlize Theron is African American. Can't we all be just Americans? When did that cease to be enough?

Very interested in exchange, Jeremy

<strong>"Barack The Magic Negro" video</strong>

No doubt you've heard about this. Folks, Limbaugh does not produce videos. He didn't create this. It's not available on his site. It was posted on YouTube and was apparently created by some web site called politicalpartypoop.com, got it? For Heaven...

I am so clueless. I have been thinking of Barack Obama as an admirable man, a charismatic, worthy candidate for president. Now I find he's only a negro. I claim the protections afforded by the fifth ammendment not to disclose my thoughts regarding Rush Limbaugh and his colleagues.

What sad, sad people rush and his fans are.Not to mention those low life scum who would put their corporate logo on such trash by advertising , companies have sent a loud and clear message to me that they promote racism and the lowest form of thought our country has to offer..Their products will never be of use to me.I would not be able to use them without thinking of what and who they represent. The only product sold during rushs show should be a bedding store pawning white sheets...shoot right for the hard core base listeners needs!...
I am sickened by the fact that there are still people out there like him who seek to inflame and encourage people to expand their lowest feelings of hate with regard to issues of race.
I see racism as a wound. We are the collective body .What rush does is the equal of picking the scab off before the sore has healed intentionally to reinfect the wound...The wound cannot heal if we keep letting morons like him continue to pick off the scab.
What a sad state of affairs it is when people applaud that.

I wasn't aware of the notion of the Magic Negro, although I saw "Six Degrees of Separation" and enjoyed it.

My take on this is that Rush is doing his usual racist schtick, which has these additional components: he bashes a leading Democratic candidate, and he tries to regain ground lost to the racists in the Imus firing. And he does all of this, while hiding behind someone else's writing (Ehrenstein's). It's almost like he's saying "I dare ya" to make something out of this, and his base eats it up.

My standards for Rush are so low, I'm glad he used the word "Negro" instead of something similar sounding.
