[...] Ari Melber responds to a criticism of the film from Dean Barnett. You remember Barnett; he’s the twit who thinks fertilized eggs are people, but soldiers aren’t, and of course women are merely major appliances. Barnett makes the knee-jerk assumption that Moore made the film to elect Democrats. [...]

What's amazed me over the years is the way the "right to life" movement has been able to insert its own carefully chosen language into mass media reporting of the issue. The phrase "partial birth abortion" is an example, but an even more remarkable accomplishment was to persuade people that "partial birth abortion" is a synonym for "late-term abortion." I've seen way too many "msm" news stories that used "late term" and "partial birth" interchangeably as if they were the same thing. I can't say that I've EVER seen a news story that explained they were not. I've run into pro-choice people who repeat that same "late term" howler. "Late term" conjures up an image of a woman in the last few weeks of pregnancy. And of course it's only a short step from there to the assumption that if this one procedure were banned, then all these selfish women wouldn't be able to kill their babies in the eighth months of their pregnancies.

As propagandists they are brilliant. There's no question about that.

Now they're waking up to reality?
The people who backed this decision knew little about what it really meant. Those of us who bothered to (or could) read knew about this all along. Thanks in large part to you, Maha.
These people would be amazed that laws outlawing murder by handguns doesn't prevent people from killing one another using knives.
We'll know these folks can understand reality when they realize that Pat Robertson can't leg press 1,000 pounds by drinking expensive flavored water that he sells to line his own pockets.
Maybe the curtain is finally being lifted so that the believers can see that the prophet standing before them is a false one. That the Wizard they follow is a man with nothing more than a balloon and a lot of hot air.
But that presupposes that these people can think independently. They'll find another false prophet in a few day's. Just a lttle bit of channel-surfing will take care of that. False prophets are a dime a dozen. Too bad they rake in more than a dime each.
That's what we ought to outlaw...

An excerpt from your 6/3 post (your words):
Show me a holy roller who rails against the sins of the flesh, and I’ll show you someone who’s been making unauthorized use of his own body parts. You can almost count on it. The same church that crusades against abortion tries to sweep the molestation of choirboys under the rug. The same ministers who warn against worldliness get mixed up in partisan politics.

And from todays (Rohrbough's words):
In Rohrbough’s view, partisan politics is also involved.
“What happened in the abortion world is that groups like National Right to Life, they’re really a wing of the Republican Party, and they’re not geared to push for personhood for an unborn child — they’re geared to getting Republicans elected,” he said. “So we’re seeing these ridiculous laws like the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban put forward, and then we’re deceived about what they really do.

Back to 6/3 (your words again):
”The Eleventh Commandment should be “Thou shalt not bullshit thyself about thyself.”

I love how you pull it all together!!!

Reporters never talk to the rank-and-file, just to the leaders. The leaders of the anti-choice organizations know exactly what they are doing. Spend time arguing with the rank and file Fetus People on the web, and you realize they have absolutely no idea what the medical and legal issues are.

Wow. I've always had a weird feeling of disorientation when listening to these people make their case, since it often seems like they think things that are obviously not true, and seem unwilling to take on-board other information. This is usually combined with an inability or unwillingness to think for themselves. Now, I see, that's not just my impression, it's SOP. Huh. The idea that some of them are now mad because they never thought to actually check to see what, exactly, they were fighting for both amuses and saddens me. They're surprised there are other methods? Really? Haven't they been paying attention? Oh. That's right. No. Whoops.

The Focus on the Family bunch has been guilty of gross dereliction of duty for years. Every female, if she can drop any, is born with every egg she'll ever drop - most of which end up in tampaxes or toilets. Talk about a disrespect for life!

G_d does not play dice with procreation. Be fruitful and multiply? Focus on the Family bunch pushing abstinence? Talk about not doing G_d's will. Talk about dereliction of duty. You god-fearing men should be out here fertilizing everything that walks.
