Announcement

The big news is that I was recently contracted to be the Guide to Buddhism at About.com. Today it’s official.

The Buddhism section has been without a Guide for about a year, so that part of the About.com site is pretty much dead in the water and rough around the edges. It will take me a few weeks to get it up to standards.

My plan at the moment is to blog politics here but to blog religion and spirituality there. Since I’ll be on probation for the next three months, and since About.com likes very short blog posts, I probably won’t be writing one of my signature 5,000 treatises there anytime soon. However, there is a forum I’ll be riding herd on, and as soon as the About.com techies get some glitches ironed out I’ll set up some new categories. Feel free to start threads on anything having to do with spirituality, though.

  1. Congratulations,Maha…You’ll be an asset. Just curious to know how it all came down..Did you solicit them for the position, or did they find you?

  2. I applied for it and had to write a bunch of stuff on speculation to prove I could do it. Bloggers don’t get no respect. Beside which, About.com has a creaky and byzantine interface that makes working for them a challenge. No doubt lots of people who are good writers give up trying to write for them.

Plus, what I will be paid will depend in part on how much traffic I generate, so I hope people don’t mind if I try to scare as much traffic over there as I can. Truly, just click on the fool link in the left-hand column now and then. You don’t even have to read anything.

  3. Very cool Maha. I’ll be visiting the site now that there is a someone tending the gardern.

  4. congrats, maha. i almost wrote that i didn’t know you were a buddhist, but then i looked hard at your title plate and the name of your blog, and realized how stupid i would sound!

also, thanks again for participating in blogroll amnesty day!
