Obama’s Passport Files

Filed under: Bush Administration, Democratic Party — maha @ 7:35 pm

Three different State Department workers on three different occasions accessed Barack Obama’s passport files, according to MSNBC. The first time was in January and most recently was last Friday. This could be huge.

  1. The big joke so far is that the State Department said “there’s no political motivation.”

  2. Maha:

My quess is this is huge. But we will never know how huge. The state department will investigate itself, I think we all know how that will end! As each day passes in this potential nomination of an african american presidential candidate, I become more embarresed by many in this country. It seems there will be nothing the rightwing, HRC, and the corporate media will stop at to prevent this man from being nominated.

  3. How long will it take for FAUX news to claim “why shouldn’t we know every country he’s traveled to”?

  4. I don’t think it was politically motivated. Probably just vigilant citizens keeping our homeland secure.

  5. Although we all want to immediately draw a direct line from these breaches to the “man sized safe” in Cheney’s office, we should all be content with Rev. Jeremiah Wright standing next to President Bill Clinton in his White House. Knocks it down the field to a general election issue. Hillary’s recently released record show that she was there too.

    Rev Wright goes to Washington

  6. For whatever it may be worth, MSNBC has reported that the State Dept. official in charge of the Bureau of Consular Affairs during the first two breaches of Obama’s passport file was Maura Harty…a former Clinton appointee. She had served as Clinton’s ambassador to Paraguay from ‘97 to ‘99. Her work in Consular Affairs began in November, 2002.

  8. Now McCains was breeched as well? See this is bipartison. I can imagine the white house morons sitting around thinking how can we make this go away? I know lets just say that it happens to everyone, yeah thats the ticket!

  10. They will never release the names of the 3 employees who got caught…but what is the name of the contractor they work for?????

  11. Very comforting to find out that I’m not really crazy, not really seeing a villain behind every door, not certifiable. The break-in of Obama’s passport info, three times no less, has got to be a fishing expedition for info to discredit him. And imagine that - McCain and Hillary’s passport info was also breached, sort of. Any half-way astute operative would of course have hidden his purpose in a maze of just-one-among-many.

  12. what is the name of the contractor they work for?????

My question exactly! Every time I hear of another gummit-contractor screwup, I wonder, “Which division of Halliburton this time?”

I guess in between sexually assaulting female employees and electrocuting our troops in the shower (KBR), or turning Walter Reed Army Hospital into a hellhole (former Halliburton crony of the Dick’s), somebody somewhere had some spare time.

  13. what is the name of the company?

The name is Stanley! They just recieved a 570 miliion dollar contract last week no less!

  14. Check out the Board of Directors! They are all ex-military, with most being ex-navy. Mmm lets see the women in charge of the consular affairs office was a Clinton appointee, and seven out of nine of the board of directors are ex-navy. None of them seem to be linked to Obama?

  16. Thanks for the links, uncledad!

Here’s the first para of the contract company’s news release on that re-upped contract:

Stanley Awarded $570 Million Contract to Continue Support of Passport Program

Over 15-Year History of Providing Passport Services Continues

ARLINGTON, Va., March 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Stanley, Inc. (NYSE: SXE), a leading provider of systems integration and professional services to the U.S. federal government, today announced that it was awarded a five-year, $570 million contract to continue support of the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Consular Affairs/Passport Services Directorate. Services include production, operational and business process support training, procurement, administration and evaluation of critical supplies, and facilities management support at the four Passport Centers and 14 Passport Agencies nationwide along with the Headquarters’ support offices.

I guess since they’ve been doing it for 15 years, they can’t be tied to Hallliburton. Sounds like they first got the contract on Bill Clinton’s watch.

But jeez, what kind of a culture must those Stanley employees have?

  18. This really reminds me of the beginnings of Watergate - the break-in to the Democratic headquarters, the ebb and flow of information, the there’s-nothing-to-it, to well that’s odd, to the obfuscation and denials and lack of information…That said, does anybody know when McCain’s passport file was breached?

    Comment by felicity — March 22, 2008 @ 12:57 pm

  19. administration and evaluation of critical supplies

Yeah, my wife has the same job description.. except we call it making a critical shopping list, and then going to the supermarket to purchase said critical supplies.

A $570 million dollar contract is not a bad deal for a whole year’s work..In Iraqi spending time it’s equivalent to a little less than 10 hours of spending. I know a good deal when I see it.
