Even more clearly than that - today’s young conservatives are learning that Nixon eventually complied with investigators, and his henchmen issued non-denial denials rather than outright lies, and he got nailed for it. Whereas Reagan and both Bushes lied through their teeth constantly and walked away unscathed.

The other thing I wanted to bring up - unfortunately, it isn’t just the right wing that says “serious” = “bombing and invasion.” It’s a pretty well-established MSM theme, along with “serious”’s cousin, “tough.”

Iago, aka Dick the Dick, pushed the Stooges buttons. Little did Iago know that his own buttons were being pushed.
If we don’t bring these people to justice, it will all mean nothing. Young conservative robots learned that lesson during the Nixon and Reagan administrations. ‘Hey, Nixon got impeached, but he walked away. Reagan faced no consequences…’
Now, they are the elder “statesmen” of the Republican party. And they are teaching new generations of conservative robots that actions have no consequences.
While I look forward to the coming Democratic victory, I fear the next Republican one. With each Presidency and Congress, they have kicked it up a notch. And their next victory may well bring about totalitarianism.

Preston, I agree that unless we act on the findings it seems like just a waste of effort and energy, but the positive side is that there is now an official record that Bush deceived the American public. It’s now a firmly established and irrefutable historical fact that Bush and his minions intentionally mislead the American people. It’s Bush’s legacy, and it can’t be spun away.

What of it all? If no one does anything with this “evidence,” it is all just pablum for the masses; another distraction from more important concerns. There is certainly enough material to bring about a war crimes conviction for those at the top of the administration. How long will we have to wait till the trials begin?

I always thought that it was the Neocons who pegged Bush as the perfect stooge, and go him to do their bidding.. The right mix of stupidity and a testosterone driven ego converged in Bush so that a couple of mild strokes on his ego launched us into Iraq. Maybe the Iranians played Bush, or maybe Chalabi acting on his own interests played him, but it is clear that Bush was primed to go off given that he never had to grapple with responsibilty.Gee, what are consequences?

One thing I blame the Bush administration for is destroying my skepticism about conspiracy theories.

Years ago, I thought, ‘you know, attacking Iraq and taking out Saddam would be just what Iran would want. Wouldn’t it be weird if, somehow, this was all an Iranian plot??”

Sigh.
