Oh, I've read The Anchoress. She's not exactly an original thinker, or a deep one, for that matter. If the Anchoress represents Samiam's intellectual ideal, I can certainly understand why Samiam doesn't like this site.

However, one wonders what canker festers in Samiam's soul that compelled him/her/it to come here to insult me and tell me how "mean" I am. Weird.

OK, so I went over and looked at the Anchoress site, and it looks like an extremely far right site to me ... so I take back the bit about samiam being "moderately right-wing" and change that to "far right-wing".

You know, if samiam is truly happy with her new stance, well I'm happy for her, but I can't just let that bit about meanness go unchallenged.

The Anchoress appears to be fully locked in to the mainstream of rightwing blogs ... just in the first few posts I found approving links to LGF, Flopping Aces, and the others in the old familiar rogue's gallery.

The thing is, those blogs are almost insanely mean and cruel on a regular basis ... LGF in particular is a nearly bottomless cess-pit ... collectively, those blogs are consistently WAY WAY more "mean" than nearly any main-stream left-wing blog, and just ridiculously more "mean" than the mahablog.

I'm not saying there aren't some bad apples on our side too ... I've never particularly liked Democratic Underground for instance ... but to base your decision to align yourself with the main-stream right-wing blogosphere based on the comparitive "meanness" of the main-stream left-wing blogosphere is just, well, factually incorrect. If that's your measure, you have absolutely no business hanging out at a blog that links to LGF.

Oh. And bring an open mind as well. You'll need one of those. Okay, I'll leave you alone now. I've closed my "chapter" and am ready to "move on"..

You guys made my day! :)
<i>Oh wow, a real honest-to-God Yoosta Bee! I haven’t seen one of those since ‘03 or so."</i>
I guess you don't get out much, SamFromUtah. There are quite a few of us out here. I run into them all the time. (To be fair, there are probably a few crossing over the opposite side as well.)
Just shows me how "right" I was! Thanks for the kind words for when I was in your club, though. I'm the same person I always was. Just a lot happier. Honestly, if you ever get sick of the meaness, come on over. The folks are very welcoming and understanding. Many of them used to be just like you.

Wow, Sam, great time to join the Righties, when most everyone else has figured out what a bunch of morally-bankrupt hypocrites they are.

To borrow a phrase from Sen. Biden, I'm sure you're "a great American."

Weird .... jujst weird. I vaguely recall samiam, and thru the magic of Teh Great Google, went back and reviewed some comments ... seemed like a reasonable person at the time (2006 - ish timeframe)

To go from generally liberal to moderately conservative during the past two years is just odd. Conservatives have spent the past eight years proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that they couldn't actually govern their way out of a wet paper bag ... and the brand has been steadily shrionking since 2006 or so.

And while I'm not totally familiar with the Anchoress, my general impression has been that that blog is by no means anything approaching "moderate". Perhaps I'm wrong there.

Odd.

Oh, I get it. That's the "universe" telling me that it's time to go. I've had my say, I guess. Thanks for listening. I'm going to strike forth and go back from whence I came. :)

Hi joanr,

I'm a she. I was also using Sam. And no I didn't join a cult. Thanks for the smear.
I don't know if you can access the archives, but I was actively backing up Maha when she was being attacked by the anti-religious types. I don't know if you remember that. We went over to some other blog (Glen's?) when she was a guest host. (I think that was the situation) Maha was standing her ground with forth the idea that religion (including Buddhism) could be a noble and spiritually enlightening thing and although I was more agnostic at the time, I enthusiastically backed her up.
Religion. Charity. Forgiveness. You know. That kind of thing.
