  1. “Repression, recession, it’s all the same thing, man.”

“That’s a drag, man, cuz we could sure use a dude like that right now.”

“He still comes around, man. Yeah, but he comes in disguises now.”

    “Ah, he went underground.”

    “Yeah, underground, man.”

A story for our time, … man. 😉 This may need a place next to the Grinch on the list of holiday classics.

  2. I heard that on the radio driving to Christmas Eve dinner with friends. It’d been quite a while since I visited the Santa Claus and His Old Lady Commune. That vibe is coming back, man.

  3. Here’s a gift to yourself, thanks to Robin Williams.

    Merry Christmas

  4. Christmas Observation:

First off I am not a Christian, I am a happy agnostic. That being said I have the following observation:

Is it just me or does anyone else find it really creepy that NORAD is tracking Santa-Claus? I am a news junkie and I don’t remember such reporting in the past. This year I have seen numerous mentions on the cables; FAUX giving great detail how NORAD protects us from Nuclear Armageddon. It seems to me that blistering death by radiation and little kids opening presents should somehow someway be kept separate. What do I know, I don’t have kids, and I don’t believe in Santa.

Also I just watched a very long “documentary” about Jesus on CNN. Wow that is some story, almost unbelievable. Oh well, merry Christmas, happy Hanukah, happy Kwanza, have nice fesitivus, and most importantly in the words of the great songwriter Daniel Johnston:

“Do yourself a favor, Become your own Savior and don’t let the sun go down on your grievances”.

  5. Uncledad, NORAD tracking Santa isn’t a recent invention. It has been around since my childhood in the 60s, when I recall reports from the DEW line. Back in the day when it was a ‘good’ thing that our military were on constant watch for anything coming at us over the Pole, it seemed quite sensible to this youngster that they’d be able to pick up Santa on radar as well. In fact, my skepticism about Santa was probably allayed for a few extra moments by the story.

I admit though, that year’s edition did seem like a creepy extension of the original idea to my adult self. Something about the satellite tracking Rudolph’s nose. (It seemed like only one misguided Pentagon public-affairs officer away from a press release about Santa abandoning the sleigh in favor of remotely guided drones dropping presents on villages.)

Still, it’s nice to think that NORAD has nothing to keep it busy at the moment but tracking Santa Claus.

  6. I remember when NORAD and all that was seen as a good thing, keeping us safe, back in the 50s and 60s. Today, it creeps me out. Late stage empire over-militarization of everything blues.
