  1. Peter Kramer’s article is a good read. It’s what we all know..that there is an unquantifiable effect from the constant spewers of bigotry, hate, fear, and conspiracy. To steal a partial concept/description from the Bibleheads, you might say what we are seeing is the evidence of things not seen.

What the Hell is that about?
    Is this a hint?
    Is there an intervention coming?
What the Hell is going on here!
    You can’t take me!!
    I’m outta here!!!

  3. Some of you were talking about “The Whore of Babblin’ On’s” Presidential prospects. I agree – not good.
She’ll always have her very base base, but I think it’s pretty clear that the establishment will start to do to her what they did to McAngry in SC in 2000 if she starts to get out of control.
She’ll be told that if she want to, she can run, to keep HER grift running, and to fully fund it she’ll keep her gig on FOX, to keep THEIR grift running. But they’ll make it clear to her that if she does start getting ahead, she’ll have to come up with some family situation to back out of the race, or ‘Mama Grizzly’ll be sleepin’ wid da salmon…’
I can hardly though wait for her upcoming authorized biolgraphy:
The Hunting of the Rouge: Sarah Palin – They Done Her Wrong!”

  4. I’d read it but… they’re watching me all the time!

Some serious thoughts, though: I think the distinction needs to be made between the GOP and the “Tea Party,” home of the most violent rhetoric and fringe whackjobs. In the 2010 election, the GOP usually tried to pretend that there was no distinction. However, it was also widely reported that folks at TP rallies generally were registered Independents, and in any case, rarely or never had voted before. It hasn’t been in the news much, but in the past week an African American GOP official in AZ resigned his position, citing verbal abuse and threats he received during his tenure. He gave the impression a lot of this nonsense came from outsiders that the GOP had been courting. Whoops.

Sarah Palin, birthers, white supremacists, sovereign-whatsits, Rush Limbaugh… at one time or another over the past two years, brave Republicans have stood up to criticize these elements and try to distance the GOP (whatever it’s supposed to be, post-Dubya) from them. (Of course, in the case of Rush, the poor offending critic inevitably ends up apologizing and kissing the blowhard’s ring.)

I’m half-watching to see who gets the new RNC chairmanship; half-watching to see if mainstream GOP criticism of the wacky fringe increases. But only half, because I don’t really care about the GOP’s troubles. Lie down with canines, wake up with fleas.
