Nibbled to Death by Ducks

There is genuinely serious stuff going on that could have a huge impact on the future of the entire world. And of course, bloggers and media are all focused on silliness. Today it seems that 99.9 percent of news stories focus on Anthony Weiner and Sarah Palin, and for all the wrong reasons.

Yesterday Joseph Cannon of Cannonfire posted what appears to be ironclad proof that the Anthony Weiner Twitter episode is a hoax. Naturally everyone on the Right Blogosphere, and some on the Left, don’t believe it, and they come up with myriad convoluted reasons why. But so far I haven’t seen anything that clearly refutes what’s in Cannonfire.

Then there’s National Lampoon’s Sarah Palin Vacation. It appears she is using PAC money to fund what is a family vacation disguised as some kind of Purposeful Event. And apparently this is not illegal, although it would be if she were a declared presidential candidate.

Palin herself bristled at questions Wednesday about how the tour was being funded. She said during a visit to the Statue of Liberty that the bus was “our own personal motor home” and that SarahPAC was paying for the trip.

“Check SarahPAC.com,” Palin told ABC News. “I don’t know why in the world you would ask a question like that. I’m just thinking about America and our foundations and our freedoms and our opportunities.”

Exactly how America and our foundations and our freedoms and our opportunities will benefit from the Palin family taking a bus tour of random national landmarks is not explained.

  1. You’ve go to love this.
On the same day that the Repbulican Crime Family basically said to Obama and the county, “Eider youse take Medicare, Medicaid, and udder entitlement programs an’ hack ’em up in da bathtub, or da economy sleeps wid da fishes,” our MSM is focused like a laser on a Weiner and a uhm, er, Palin ( make your own joke here – I ain’t goin’ there).

I’ll give “The Whore of Babblin’ On” some credit – she proved her point about how “lame” the lamestream media really is by having them follow her Clown Bus around in their Clown Cars.
Doesn’t ANYONE in the MSM have any dignity? I would say, even if I were going to be fired, “No, I won’t follow this clown around like the rest of this media circus. She’s not running. What’s the point? She’s an attention junkie, and needs an intervention – and the best intervention we can have is not to pay any attention to her again! At least not until she declares”
I guarantee that after I was fired, I’d be rehired by a whatever REAL MSM there still is.

And somehow, a Liberal Congressman from NY is under more scrutiny for supposedly sending a picture of his package in tightie whities to a young adult female, than a Republican ‘Family Values” Senator who cheated on his wife with her best friend, a woman who was also married to his most trusted political aid, and whose parents gave a ton of money to help in the cover-up, and who illegally found a lobbying job for the hubby, and was forced to step down from office in disgrace.
Who knew a boner in a pair of bulging white shorts could top a boner-fide scandal?

Oh, and also, too – Palin in NY City:
“We’ll highlight the beauty of legal immigrants’ work ethic and love of freedom while visiting Ellis Island & Statute of Liberty today,” she wrote on her Blackberry Wednesday morning.

    “Statute” of Liberty!
And here I thought it was merely a statue, not a law.
Read her comments while she spoke there. It’s her usual incoherancy, only squared.
It’s no longer a ‘word salad’ with her. Now, it a veritable smorgasbord.

    “Lamestream” media, indeed.

  2. ..I’m just thinking about America and our foundations and our freedoms and our opportunities, ‘an stuff…

OK, so she didn’t say it exactly like that, but that’s what went through my mind.

Great excerpt of a Rolling Stone article, How Roger Ailes Built the Fox News Fear Factory:

..To understand what drives Fox News, and what its true purpose is, you must first understand Chairman Ailes. “He is Fox News,” says Jane Hall, a decade-long Fox commentator who defected over Ailes’ embrace of the fear-mongering Glenn Beck. “It’s his vision. It’s a reflection of him.”..

…But Ailes is also, by turns, a tyrant: “I only understand friendship or scorched earth,” he has said. One former deputy pegs him as a cross between Don Rickles and Don Corleone. “What’s fun for Roger is the destruction,” says Dan Cooper, a key member of the team that founded Fox News. “When the light bulb goes on and he’s got the trick to outmaneuver the enemy – that’s his passion.”

…The result of this concerted campaign of disinformation is a viewership that knows almost nothing about what’s going on in the world. According to recent polls, Fox News viewers are the most misinformed of all news consumers. They are 12 percentage points more likely to believe the stimulus package caused job losses, 17 points more likely to believe Muslims want to establish Shariah law in America, 30 points more likely to say that scientists dispute global warming, and 31 points more likely to doubt President Obama’s citizenship. In fact, a study by the University of Maryland reveals, ignorance of Fox viewers actually increases the longer they watch the network. That’s because Ailes isn’t interested in providing people with information, or even a balanced range of perspectives. Like his political mentor, Richard Nixon, Ailes traffics in the emotions of victimization.

“What Nixon did – and what Ailes does today in the age of Obama – is unravel and rewire one of the most powerful of human emotions: shame,” says Perlstein, the author of Nixonland. “He takes the shame of people who feel that they are being looked down on, and he mobilizes it for political purposes. Roger Ailes is a direct link between the Nixonian politics of resentment and Sarah Palin’s politics of resentment. He’s the golden thread.”

…But the clearest demonstration of how Ailes has seamlessly merged both money and message lies in the election of John Kasich, a longtime Fox News contributor who eked out a two-point victory over Democrat Ted Strickland last November to become governor of Ohio. While technically a Republican, Kasich might better be understood as the first candidate of the Fox News Party. “The question is no longer whether Fox News is an arm of the GOP,” says Burns, the network’s former media critic, “but whether it’s becoming the torso instead.”

…Fox News stands as the culmination of everything Ailes tried to do for Nixon back in 1968. He has created a vast stage set, designed to resemble an actual news network, that is literally hard-wired into the homes of millions of America’s most conservative voters. GOP candidates then use that forum to communicate directly to their base, bypassing the professional journalists Ailes once denounced as “matadors” who want to “tear down the social order” with their “elitist, horse-dung, socialist thinking.” Ironically, it is Ailes who has built the most formidable propaganda machine ever seen outside of the Communist bloc, pioneering a business model that effectively monetizes conservative politics through its relentless focus on the bottom line. “I’m not in politics,” Ailes recently boasted. “I’m in ratings. We’re winning.”

  3. When the rule of law is replaced by the rule of men, tyranny follows. Judging by the ‘handling’ of the Weiner ‘case,’ Miranda has been scrapped (Weiner doesn’t have to answer a single question posed to him by the media or anybody else for that matter) the accused now must prove his innocence whereas the accuser no longer has to prove his guilt (Weiner is not required, by law, to prove the photo is not of him nor must he prove that he did not send it to the young woman.)

As I said, when the rule of law is replaced by the rule of men, tyranny follows.

  4. My Spidey-sense detects a Breitbart/O’Keefe conspiracy in the matter of Weiner v. wiener. If not them, then others of their intellectual and maturity level.

  5. Roger Ailes is a direct link between the Nixonian politics of resentment and Sarah Palin’s politics of resentment. He’s the golden thread.” “—exaxtly so. Brilliant observation. The end began with Nixon (read Morris Berman )

  6. The latest Palin ‘enterprise’ involves re-writing history, namely, Paul Revere’s ride was meant to warn the British that the Americans were armed. What? Getting past the obvious inanity of this re-write – it’s practically sacrilegious – it’s clear that Palin knows her ‘base,’ knows what the ‘base’ wants to hear and will oblige at every opportunity that presents itself.

So what does the ‘base’ want to hear? Judging by billboards posted in the Panhandle which read “God, guns and guts made America free” they’ll love hearing Palin’s version of Paul’s famous ride, and she knows it, and there lies her appeal.

  7. Remember Jay Leno had a segment on his show where he would go out on the street and ask people simple questions about geography or history? And how most of the people were so clueless that you couldn’t figure out if people were really that dumb, or if the whole thing was just a big put on…I remember one question he asked was..”What country is Boston in?” and I was shocked that anybody who is an American wouldn’t know that, but there were plenty who didn’t have a clue..Just like your typical Palin supporter.
