I’m sure you do. He was a Liberal Republican. We older folks used to call them Rockefeller Republicans.
Initially, Javits supported LBJ on Vietnam, but a few years later, he became one of the greatest opponents.
When I tell people that I’ve voted for Republicans before, I meant people like him. But, there were fewer and fewer of them every year since I first started voting in 1976 at the age of 18.
Now, they’re ALL gone.
I didn’t always agree with Senator Hatfield, but I respected him.
