Nearly 90 percent of donations to Romney are from large donors. This is a problem for him in two ways. One, it shows that he doesn’t have a broad base of “regular guy” voters. Two, if Romney donors have already given their maximum donation, he can’t go to that well again during the general election.

This is to demonstrate that Romney’s popularity took a dive after he got Donald Trump’s endorsement. But whether the Donald caused the dive or not, Romney doesn’t seem to be wearing well on voters.

72% of super PAC money funding the 2010 election cycle would have been prohibited prior to Citizens United. Curious, did the Framers intend that the Supreme Court Justices serve for life? Given its decisions over recent years and given that its justices can continue to make them until they drop dead, it’s quite possible that in the coming years they will manage to completely destroy this already severely compromised democracy of ours.

The base doesn’t like Mitt.
Joe and Jane Average Republican don’t like Mitt.
Only the rich and corporatist’s like him.

Too bad the Republican Party spent the last 3+ years trying to tear-down Obama, and didn’t spend time building-up their own candidate base.
Now, it looks like they’re stuck with “Fill-in the ___________________” Mitt, “Torquemada” Rick, “Three-timing” Newt, and “Pluto” Paul.
It couldn’t happen to a “nicer” bunch of Christianista assholes.

Actually, I’m 99% sure you can hit donors up once for the primary and once for the general.

LHW – Yes, you can hit up a doners as many times as you want – but only up to the max amount.

Obama’s fundraising allows and encourages frequent small donations and it works – when you have a large, energized base.

That may be but it has been my experience that regular guy Republicants never contribute to candidates, at least all of my republican friends don’t. They laugh at the prospect of contributing to a campaign; to them it’s like paying taxes, something for the other guy. I don’t think many of them really believe the repugs, they just vote for them because they hate!

Yes, but, unless the rules changed in the past Presidential election cycle – and they may have – you could donate $X for the primary, and $X for the general, and the “maximum” was therefore two donations, $X each, for a total of $2X.

(It’s also possible that I’m misremembering, or that there are different donation limits for the primary, etc..)

Yes, you’re right LHW, donations can be made in primary and general elections. Or, in the case of recall elections in WI, unlimitedly. Weird business we’re running here.
