Trayvon Martin Update

The Police Chief of Sanford, Florida, got a vote of “no confidence” from the city commissioners today and has temporarily stepped down from his position, pending … well, it’s not clear what. Until things settle down, I suppose.

It’s good to see so many people pulling together to get justice for the Martin family. Maybe there’s some hope for us all.

  1. Oh, no! NOT THE VOTE OF “NO CONFIDENCE!!!”

What’s next – “The Not-so Comfy Chair of Public Opprobrium?”
    “Oh… THE HUMANITIES!!!”

The problem is, that the police department didn’t follow (almost) ANY of the rules involved in a shooting.
They didn’t do a BAC test, or check for drugs in Zimmerman’s system. They didn’t even know to check the kid’s cell-phone! And, instead of investigating on the spot with a REAL detective, they used some fill-in, and then let Martin go to the morgue as a “John Doe.”

Not only is this Zimmerman idiot protected by the stupid Florida system which seems to defend the rights of a gun-packing moron in a car chasing down an unarmed and scared black teenager, instead of the kid being chased, and shooting him to death – there’s no way a local or State Judge would let the trial even start due to the complete incompetence of the local Police Dept.
    THERE WAS NO DUE PROCESS!
They sent the wrong cop to the site of a shooting – and then mucked-up everything from that point on!
Inspector Clouseau, after drinking a liter of Tequila, chased by a case of beer, smoking a doob, and doing LSD and taking some Meth, could have done better!
Unless the DOJ can find some Federal laws under which to prosecute Zimmerman, then he will go free.
And this Police Chief, and his department, are soooooo f*cking incompetent, that if the DOJ does decide to go after Zimmerman, it will look like Obama and Holder, both black, are looking to supercede Florida law, and are instead looking to use public resources for private justice for a fellow black man.
And ain’t THAT just tailor-made for Conservatives in an election year!

    OY!

  2. Tom B,
    Nice catch!

And it’s almost “funny” to hear from Rep. West (R-eactionary Lunatic, FL) about this.

I wonder how many people in Iraq said, “This is an outrage!”, about what HE did over there?

Of course, they were a different shade than he is.

Hmmm… I wonder how much Martin being the same shade as he is, and Zimmerman not, had to do with his criticism?

  3. Maybe it had nothing to do with “shade” at all.

Considering West’s over the top patriotism, perhaps it had more to do with “us Americans” vs. “those Iraqis.”

  4. We have all had enough of society’s behavior toward young black men. This murder is a truly dreadful catalyst that will hopefully change public attitudes toward law enforcement, the NRA and legislation.

  5. Tom B …West isn’t calling out a gun nut. He’s using this tragedy and the public’s outrage over it to politically primp.. The real outrage is the laws that allowed this tragedy to come into being.

When you abrogate the responsibility of the state to take life and bestow it on the individual with the only safeguard being to “reasonably believe”, you’ve granted every nut job under the sun a license to kill. I recently saw a statistic that over 50% of GOP primary voters “reasonably” believe in their own mind that Obama is a muslim.

Reasonably believing is too abstract and vague a concept to entrust to the general public where taking someone’s life is a consideration.

    • erinyes — Again, this shows us that the people most likely to get whipped up into hysteria over their 2nd Amendment rights tend to be (1) paranoid and (2) pretty damn stupid.

  6. Gun sales are up?

What I’d love to see, is what the NRA would say if they found out that the bulk of the new buyers were teenage Black males who saved their Skittles and Arizona Iced Tea money to buy weapons to protect themselves.

What, only White people are allowed to get guns?
Give the NRA time, folks… Give the NRA time…
You see, under “Original Intent,” and since there were few, if any, Black militia members, or women, the 2nd Amendment will be interpreted as applying only to White men.
