Perhaps just another rational, well intentioned person (plus, successful, he’s a CEO!!) who is kind of having a bad day. Normally, he is a responsible, prudent and safety conscious gun owner. I am sure that when he said he was willing to “fire the first shot” it would mean putting a few rounds through a stop sign or other inanimate object. It would be a purely symbolic gesture.
This dweeb has edited the video, removing the “I’m gonna start sh#oting part” he’s also uploaded an explanation where he starts out with a kinder tone but a couple min in he starts making threats again. I’ll bet he’ll be getting a visit from the ATF soon, I hope!
I’d like to suggest the Crazy People With Guns List should be in reverse alphabetical order so Mr. Yeager can be right up there close to the top so maybe they can catch him before he starts “killing people”.
Jon Stewart kinda went to the point at the end of his bit – 2 post back. When you or I say gun control, that’s what we are talking about. We have rational discussions about registration, sale and transfer, magazine size and military design. My big thing is training and certification. Lots of different approaches and I know that neither Barbara or any of the regulars have advocated for confiscation.
When gun nuts hear the words ‘gun control’ they think ‘gun confiscation’. It’s no accident – the gun magazines have been predicting and warning and stoking the fires of paranoia for years! Any gun enthusiast has been getting a steady stream of predictions that they are going to take your guns – so they can take away your rights and then they are going to execute you like Stalin and Mao.
I’m sorry to say this – because it goes against my basic belief in finding common ground – negotiating – compromise. These people can’t be reasoned with. When gun control is proposed, regardless of what is actually there, some of these kooks will go off – violently. And when the government doesn’t confiscate their guns, they will declare it’s because they scared away the feds.
THIS is your responsible gun owner…..’nough said.
The NRA says….“We will not allow law-abiding gun owners to be blamed for the acts of criminals and madmen,” the organization said. “Instead, we will now take our commitment and meaningful contributions to members of Congress of both parties who are interested in having an honest conversation about what works—and what does not.”
Honest conversation? I have yet to hear anyone blame law abiding gun owners for the acts of criminals or” madmen”. And to say otherwise shows that the NRA can’t have an honest conversation with themselves, or they are intentionally being dishonest in their rhetoric to distort any dialog with the American public. Typical alcoholic thinking..blame everybody but yourself.
Good point, Swami. The NRA is operating from the same premise as the Tea Party and the Norquist pledge supporters: the only option is the nuclear option. There is money and fear in play here. Neither is famous for having ears.

Swami – The NRA statement reflects the thinking of irrational gun owners – or maybe I should call them gun owners who are irrational about government controls. They view the entire gun issue as white hats vs black hats. Good guys vs bad guys. Criminals vs law-abiding.
As was reported in an earlier post, in a lot of cases when there is a shooting death, BOTH parties thought they were wearing the ‘white hat’. The shooter in the Trevon Martin case absolutely thought he was wearing the ‘white hat’. The rush to defend Martin (the shooter) against prosecution seems to stem from a belief that if you think you are the good guy – you have immunity. The assumption is also automatic and beyond question – the other guy MUST be the ‘black hat’ because two ‘white hats’ can’t disagree.
Almost all this crap is running at a subconscious level – so it’s almost imposable to engage. Rational discussions don’t mesh because the underlying philosophies are incompatible. I’m looking for a solution that doesn’t include a lobotomy.
Obama should employ some of Bush’s tactics and break the back of the NRA by putting entire purview of gun control under the the cloak of national security interests. It’s already been established thanks to Bush and his neocon friends that any safegaurds to the constitutions are effectively void once any voice of objection falls into that black hole.
He won’t be taking anybody’s rights.. He’ll just be taking control of the conversation. The NRA will be a lot more attentive and a lot less fiesty with their 300 million dollar budget if they have to face off with the full power of the United States.
Obama can spin his wheels haggling over magazine sizes and other trivial measures or he can put the NRA in a position where they’ll be fighting just to survive as an organization. Look at Reagan and Patco..entirely different situation except for the fact of one fell swoop.

The NRA’s solution is, that while we can’t register, and/or confiscate guns, we should register, and/or confiscate the civil rights of, people with mental illness/issues.

For those of you who didn’t live in NY back in the 70′s and 80′s, we used to see and hear commercials all the time for “Crazy Eddie’s” on TV and radio. It was a retail consumer electronics chain started by, you guessed it! – a guy named Eddie (Antar). And he had some DJ coming on, all crazy and high energy, and, at the end, he’s shout, “Crazy Eddie – HIS PRICES ARE… INSANE!!!”
He and his partners made a mint!
Eventually, he started cheating, and the Feds charged him with all sorts of fraud. He ran off to Israel. Eventually came back, was found guilty, and served a few years in the hoosegow.

Of course you get a cat! Sadie’s intake papers are marked “reserved” already. I’ve confirmed transport and I pet Sadie every day and tell her it is just a little while longer till she has a home. I have to admit, I was looking for a swastika. I never understand where these guys get this attitude of “That’s it, I’m fed up, I’m not taking it anymore.” If this is the last straw what the hell was the first straw? Being the compassionate liberal I am, I sent Yeager an e-mail link for a penis extender just to hold him over until he gets his concealed carry permit reinstated. He’s probably suffering from severe withdrawl symptoms. The State of Tennessee should have done the kind thing and weaned him off his permit.

Gun nuts threatening violence against those who say gun nuts are violent reminds me of the much-circulated photo(shop?) of radical Islamists holding signs that say “BEHEAD THOSE WHO SAY ISLAM IS VIOLENT”.
Which is, I suppose, ironic. I can’t imagine James Yeager is particularly enamored of the Muslim faith, let alone its most fundamentalist adherents.
