Glorious Martyrdom

The Right is rallying around a new pretty shiny thing, which is seeing themselves as victims of religious persecution. They are not being allowed to discriminate against gay people and deny birth control coverage to employees. It’s just like being fed to lions!

I say, if this is what they want to go with, let ’em. These days, I think more people sympathize with gays than with fundamentalists. And if Mike Huckabee wants to argue that women are insulted when Democrats try to ease their access to birth control — well, let him. Please proceed, governor.

  1. The republican party is searching for a large demographic group that they can shift to vote anti-democrat. The ploy is weak here, but they are working it. The demographic group called ‘Christian’ is the target and the plan is to convince Christians that Obama and democrats at large are in opposition to the christian faith. There are a lot of liberal churches out there – this is a weakness in the campaign. The backbone of the target group is Catholics. Ooops, the pope isn’t playing along. (LOL) I think the campaign will work up the base, but attract new political converts to vote against any candidate with a ‘D’ by his name – I doubt it.

  2. My enemies encompass me, they seek to devour me, deliver me, O Lord! 🙂

You know, it would be funny except for who is sitting on the Supreme Court. In a sane world the prospect of even considering such a lame argument would be laughable, but in view of current realities it’s a frightening prospect to consider.

  3. In the so-called religious persecution of the righties, they, in turn, are trying to shove their religion down my throat. I don’t think it will win them many converts.
