Happy Thanksgiving!

  1. This was a great way to start the day. We don’t get to see many popular films, so this was new to me.

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

    • Addams Family Values has some great lines, such as —

Debbie Jellinsky: These Addams men, where do you find them?

Morticia: It has to be damp.

      and

      [about Pubert]

Gomez: He has my father’s eyes.

Morticia: Gomez, take those out of his mouth.

  2. I remember seeing this on HBO years ago!

    Funny!

    Happy Thanksgiving, one and all.
I have a lot to be thankful for – family, friends, recovery from surgery, a roof over our heads, a furnace that works (knock on wood…), etc.

And I give thanks today for all of my internet friends here at maha, and other sites.

    Have some turkey for me.
    SEND LIQUOR!
    I haven’t had a drink in months.
    OY!
    You think waterboarding is bad?
    Try no-liquor-on-boarding!
    For a Slav, there’s nothing worse – almost…
There’s always the fear of Germans – THAT’S worse!
    Sure, the ok nice now.
    But…

  3. Happy Thanksgiving to All. My turkey dinner got delayed until Saturday because my daughter who is not an experienced cook bought a frozen 15 lb. turkey and it didn’t thaw out in time for today. And she has to work tomorrow. So we went out for breakfast this AM and will have our celebration later. That’s okay with me, I’m not big on holidays anyway. They are overrated. Except for Halloween and New Year’s Eve. Besides I’m trying to be a vegan.

  4. Doug — I watched that concert on PBS too. Important question — did you sing the chorus with him, when it came around on the guitar? With feeling? I couldn’t help it, as bad as my singing voice is, I gotta sing along with that song.

  5. We had dinner with some friends in the mountains. No TV, dicey cell phone connection, limited internet access, –it was great!

Cundgulag, I am only Slavic on one side, but, I feel your pain, Bro. I quit all alcohol for eight weeks as part of a “get healthy” kick. It actually worked quite well, so I guess I’ll continue the excessive moderation for a while. Hey, that’s an oxymoron, isn’t it?

I wish I could teleport you some of my home made Absinthe.

Anyway, I hope everyone found something to be truly thankful for, and avoided political confrontations.

  6. HOME MADE ABSINTH?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

    Hokey Smokes, Bullwinkle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANT SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you can’t teleport it, or ship it, how about a recipe?

    Yeah, I know.
You’ll have to kill me afterwards.
It’ll be ok – as long as it’s AFTER I’ve finished the bottle (or two)! 🙂

  7. How horribly appropriate for a day named “Black Friday:”
Three unplanned deaths at a Planned Parenthood.

It’s too early to know if this attack and the resulting deaths is the work of yet another “Christian” “Pro Life” zealot or not, since he was only recently captured alive.

But this took place in Colorado Springs, one of the hot spots for uber-“Christian” lunacy, so my guess would be yes.

And based on that guess, I’d like to say the following:
Part of me is glad he was taken alive, to study what caused this terrorist – yes, TERRORST! – to do something this heinous. And see if there’s any way possible to stop future domestic “Christian” terrorists.
Another isn’t, because this terrorist will now become yet another martyr for the misogynistic cause of fundamentalist “Christian”terrorism.

Let me ask our fundamentalist “Christians:”
Where in the New Testament do you see that these acts of domestic terrorism would be condoned by your “Prince of Peace?”
And how do you distinguish the actions of your fundamentalist “Christian” terrorists, from the Muslim fundamentalists that you loath?

All I see as an Agnostic, are the same ends and means, only for different Prophets and religious texts.

  8. Trump is in trouble for WWE chokeslamming NYT author Charles Krauthammer. Something about abuse of the disabled (Mr. Krauthammer is wheelchair bound). The neocons and libs have pounced upon him for this latest gaffe.

  9. So lets see this guy has an AK-47 and shoots up a Planned Parenthood killing a cop and a civilian and gets arrested to stand trial but this guy has a 3 inch knife and didn’t hurt anyone but gets gunned down with sixteen bullet holes, curious?

  10. Sorry to go off topic.

Cundgulag: We planted a batch of Artemisia Absinthium last year with disappointing results. So, I started looking for the ingredients on line. As it turns out, you can buy an extract made by a pharmaceutic company in Switzerland. So maybe the term “home made” is a bit of a stretch. But, if you look into how it was made during the Belle Epoque, it was done the same way.

Unfortunately, Absinthe does have abuse potential, but, in moderation, it’s really quite different and the mood is much more contemplative. It’s just the thing if you have a group of gypsy friends coming over to play jazz manouche, But, of course, things could get out of hand.

As far as domestic terrorism is concerned, one of the angles we should bring out is the concept of “stochastic terrorism,” linked to the hyperbolic, violent and eliminationist rhetoric that seems so common these days. The hate mongers really do bear some responsibility and we need to hang that responsibility on them like a dead rooster around a chicken killer dog’s neck. (No I’ve never really done that with a dead rooster, it’s just an expression.)

    goatherd,
Had he lived, maybe Jimi Hendrix’s next band would have been called ‘Band of Outta-hand Gypsys!’

I hope he would have kept Buddy Miles and Billy Cox*, but maybe added some other great musicians.

*Sadly, this Billy Cox is a different one from the Brooklyn Dodgers GREAT defensive 3rd Baseman, who played with their terrific teams from the late 40’s to the mid 50’s.
How cool would THAT have been, if it had been the same person! 🙂

The Lord works in mysterious ways? You never know how he’s going to express his wrath.

  15. Hendrix!!! As much as I love Django, I think there is some chance that I might come to understand what he was doing, his mind. Julian Bream, Narciso Yepes, Manitas de Plata, yeah, maybe. Hendrix just came here from another planet and it may be best to let the mystery be. Maybe if I were twenty and had a few decades ahead of me, something would come of it, but almost certainly not. I mean this all as praise, of course.

I remember a clip from an old French TV program. They had Brigitte Bardot and Manitas de Plata together. Manitas was playing his guitar and Brigitte was ad libbing situations for him to describe with his music. I’ve never seen anything like that on American TV.

Sadly, she’s turned National Front, but Manitas still has a main of shocking white hair. He had a right hand that didn’t seem real, and a very playful mind, what a treasure!

Just so, Swami. But, he does have a habit of expressing his wrath along the well worn lines of right wing hate speech. As we both know, this is mere coincidence.
