  1. I think all the talk of Hillary being the presumptive front-runner is just so much rumor-mongering by her, by the DLC, and by Fox News, who already have her as the nominee (and wouldn’t they just love that?).

All the internal polling by kos and MyDD (not scientific, just finger-in-the-wind) never has Hillary getting more than 5% of the vote. And Avedon’s right, the draft-Gore movement is beginning to get some legs.

She lost my vote when she caved on Iraq three years ago. She’s not going to get the progressives, she’s never going to get the republicans, and so she must be trying for those elusive swing voters. Good luck to her. RE-ELECT GORE IN ’08!

  2. Even I, a longtime Hillary hater, was startled by the vehement loathing of her that my (Dem) family expressed over Thanksgiving weekend. I agree with merciless– I think the righties who are gleefully rubbing their hands and drooling over Nominee Hillary are clueless as to how much she’s despised by her own party.

I haven’t gotten a sense that Gore would ever agree to run again; perhaps I’m missing something? If he plays up his family connection to the old “Futurama” cartoon series, he’ll have my vote. (“Good news, everyone! Al Gore’s Head is running for President of Earth!”)

  3. There’s a very good Krauthammeresque reason not to nominate Hillary. For the past twenty years, we’ve had either a Bush or a Clinton in the White House. If Hillary ran, she’s asking for at least four, more probably eight years.

Twenty-eight years out of 230 years – that’s well over ten percent of the entire Republic’s lifetime being ruled by intimate members of two different families. We have almost 300 million people in this country, and we can’t find a single other person qualified to be president??

  4. We are supposed to be the people living in reality. The reality of the United States is that a woman will not get elected for President any time soon–not in my lifetime (and, I hope there is at least another 10 or 15 more years of it). If the Democrats nonimate Hillary, they are throwing away an opportunity to beat the Republicans. I know it’s sexist; but this country has not come as long a way as it likes to think. W is living proof of that. It is, unfortunately, the truth. Also, it will be a waste nominating a black man or woman. Maybe the Repugs will run Condi–if she isn’t arrested for crimes against humanity . . .

  5. I always though that New Yorker’s would have seen through Hillary’s act to serve the people of New York and not elect her…..Hillary serves Hillary.. then, now, and always.

  6. Bonnie, I think this country is indeed ready to have a woman president, but the one with the right stuff is nowhere on the horizon. I don’t know what her numbers are like, but I sense a warm spot on the right for Condi, although I don’t think she’s their first choice.

God I hope Hillary doesn’t run. What is it about being a Senator that makes some people go gutless and dumb. All the sh*t going on in this country and we have to listen to her waste energy on flag desecration. And I know it’s only Kabuki.

  7. I’ve always had a deep admiration for Hillary. She’s got more cajones than a lot of men. That said, I am greatly disturbed at her moving past the center and into the righties zone. She has abandoned her base and diluted her support. No matter what she does, the right will never vote for her and the left is now disallusioned.
