SOS

Today President Bush gave the first speech in new series of four speeches that will explain to the American people why we are in Iraq.

In his speech today, the President tossed out an SOS — for Same Old Shit.

If you really care about what he said, you can read a transcript here and a news story here. It’s essentially the same Iraq speech he’s been giving for the past several months — “As Iraqis stand up, America and our coalition will stand down” — with a couple of additions:

1. The bombing of the Golden Mosque of Samarra was bad. The people who bombed the mosque wanted to start a civil war, but you’ll be happy to know that the Iraqi people have already decided not to have one.

2. Iran is exporting IED devices into Iraq, which is very bad. Iran also supports terrorism and has a nuclear weapons program. We’re going to have to do something about Iran one of these days.

Other than that, it really was the SOS — Iraqi elections were good, Iraqi security forces doing a crackerjack job, everything’s just peachy.

  1. Operation Forked Tongue?

He’s hopeless. He’s still trying to market his blunder by implying some sort of cowardice on our part as a substitute for reason and wise choices. Personally. I’m immune to his bull shit and I think his words are falling on deaf ears. He’s become the boy who cried wolf..

  2. Bush seems to think that images are waging war on us and keeps telling us to not pay much attention to them. He should tell the soldiers at Brooke and Walter Reed that their injuries were caused by ‘images’.

  3. More of the national treasury being poured down the drain. I want my money back. I do not pay taxes for Bush to frivolously spend it on these PR stunts or for an illegal and immoral war or for torturing prisoners of war or for illegally wiretapping Americans or . . . the list goes on.

  4. Why does he use the blanket term “terrorists” when talking about insurgents? Somehow I get the feeling he’s still connecting Saddam and the terrorists of 9/11. And what’s this bullsh** about spreading democracy as a tactic to rid the world of terrorism? By his own definition, hasn’t our democracy spread in Iraq actually created more “terrorists?” None of what he’s saying makes the tiniest bit of sense.

  5. Bush is trying to sell the idea of war with Iran. One war is not enough for him

  6. !. the bombing of the golden mosque was likely the work of outside “agents”. It is very hard to believe devout or even fanatical Muslims would bomb a Muslim holy place to piss other Muslims off.
2.The idea of Iran exporting IED devices to Iraq is fabulous at best. Does the U.S. military not control the border? Don’t we have space based or spy plane cameras which are capable of photographing a postage stamp from orbit?

Even the fundy preachers are in on the disinformation, spewing lies about Saddams’ remote controlled model airplanes several years ago, now spewing lies about Irans’ emp weapons!
The blatant lies and fairy tales told by this administration and reinforced by the MSM and religious “leaders” are beyond the comprehension of sane men and women.

  7. Anyone else recall the story of that UN sealed facility south of Baghdad which was huge, something like three square miles of buildings full of certain explosives? That’s the facility El Baradei kept warning the intent-on-invasion Bush team to be sure to protect, because it contained tons of the very kind of explosives most desired by terrorists…..Our Third Infantry camped there and some embedded journalists took pictures of the sealed boxes and seals on doors…..then they were ordered to move on to Baghdad…..next the 1st Airborne were in that area…..and also moved on……
The Bush team ignored the imminent common sense and urgency of El Baradei’s plea and failed to secure that huge supply of stored explosives. Sure enough, within weeks, next time anyone checks …..all the seals are broken, all the explosives are gone. Locals reported that night-running convoys of trucks simply came in and carted off all the goodies.
When the significance of this loss came out [and the realization that these very explosives might be in the road-side bombs killing our soldiers], the Bush and Pentagon PR folks tried to say that the huge site was already emptied of explosives when our invading teams first camped there on their way to Baghdad. That Bushie cover-up lie was dropped fast when the Minneapolis reporters who had been imbedded with the Third Infantry offered up the photos they had taken of the still-sealed explosives.

Funny… at that time, once the Bush team cover-up lie failed, the whole issue was sort of quietly dropped by the MSM. Today, Bush is blaming the Iranians for IED materials in Iraq……I guess I think it is fair to remind folks that Bush’s own team is responsible for tons of IED materials being loose in Iraq.

  8. NOTICE:

Usual Bush SOS speech. Whenever he makes up a number concerning Iraqi Brigades( I think I heard 160 today), he always says ready to leave. What he leaves out, and his own bought generals admit it, is that they still need American backup- I’m talking about communications, logistic support, etc. The things that support the frontline troops in a skirmish.

  9. Comment to Bonnie -#3 – You want your money back? George already gave you your money back. Oh you must be in that small group that isn’t making over a million bucks a year. Too bad for you!

  10. I’m watching a repeat of the speech now – I must say the president looks pretty good – not too stressed. He must have had a great bike ride with Andy Card today followed by an extra long nap.

  11. Well, according to the most recent Pentagon report, the number of Iraqi army units that can operate without US assistance has plummeted from a total of 1 to a new grand total of exactly ZERO. Doesn’t sound to me like they are ready to “stand up” as US forces “stand down”. What a mess…..

Donna is absolutely right. The IEDs are not coming from Iran, they are coming from that storage warehouse. Just another disgusting spin attempt by this knucklehead administration.

I have never been so disgusted by the failures of the US press. They are a disgrace and an embarrassment.

  12. Did you hear the Breaking News–

In an attempt to thwart the spread of Bird Flu,

George W. Bush has bombed the Canary Islands.
