Moussaoui: “I Lied”

Reuters reports that Moussaoui wants to withdraw his guilty plea.

Moussaoui, 37, said in an affidavit filed with the motion that he had pleaded guilty last year to conspiracy in connection with the attacks against the advice of his court-appointed lawyers because his understanding of the U.S. legal system was “completely flawed.”

Moussaoui’s court-appointed lawyers — who rarely speak to their client — said in a footnote that they were aware of a federal rule that prohibits a defendant from withdrawing a guilty plea after a sentence is imposed. But they said they filed the motion anyway “given their problematic relationship with Moussaoui.”

Make of that what you will.

  1. For those who said he’d quietly go away, it looks like we’ll continue to hear from him, forever …

  2. Well, if the righties were to get another crack at a death penalty, they might actually help push for this.

  3. I’m sure that another trial will be denied. We’ve wasted enough time on this guy.

I saw pictures on TV over the weekend of the facility where he will spend the rest of his life. He will spend 23 hours per day in his cell and just get one hour for exercise.

The also showed photos of other people at the facility. One if Woody’s Dad from Cheers series.

  4. I read that Moussaoui claims he confessed before because he had pretty much no faith in the American justice system and figured that the jury would put him to death and he’d be a martyr. But, after reading the jury’s justification for their decision, particularly that some jurors didn’t buy he was really involved with 9/11, he saw that maybe the system worked after all. Or something similar. Not sure what to make of it, but I think that’s interesting.
