  1. As a guy, I well remember the kind of things Mannion talks about from my boyhood. It’s universal to boys.

It’s relevant to bring up one of Sara Robinson’s high notes over at Orcinus, “Leering Old Men – Another Take”:

“…Right-wing authoritarian (RWA) followers have little use for reason; but are very invested in their fantasy lives. They take myth and metaphor absolutely literally, because interpreting them requires a level of abstraction they aren’t comfortable with. In other words: they are voluntarily choosing to operate at the intellectual processing level of a first-grader…”

Mannion nails it perfectly, but the real question is how these boy-men with such a childish, testosterone-fueled, fantasy view of the world got into positions of power in the first place. In a saner world, the tribal elders would’ve prevented this. The real question is why this didn’t happened.

  2. “but are very invested in their fantasy lives”

A big amen!… Even the ones who forsake their playing army fantasies, and act out their sexual fantasies, like Larry (“I’m not a homosexual”) Craig. And needless to say Mark Foley did such a complete disappearing act that he appears to be raptured.

Snort! “Raptured.” Is that what they’re calling it now?

Moonbat raises an interesting point; I guess there’s no oversight when the tribal elder is your dad?
