The Voting Day, Miss Lucy Memorial Fund and I Need a New Starter for My Car Post

Sometimes I like to pretend life is just a Monopoly game, and I am a thimble who lives in a little green plastic house on Baltic Avenue. I’m happy whenever I can get around the board once and collect my $200 without going to jail. However, today I drew the “car repair” Chance card and must cough up a bunch of money to get the Mahamobile out of the garage. So I’m cranking the Miss Lucy Memorial Fundraiser up again.

***

It’s been about a year since I’ve done any fund-raising, and I’m in a hole because of Miss Lucy’s vet and crematory costs, so I’m banging the tin cup again. Right now I can’t even spring Lucy’s ashes from the mortuary, never mind catch up on the bills that didn’t get paid because I had to get her veterinary care. I would be most grateful for whatever you can spare.

And if all you can spare is $1, I’d be grateful for that. If everyone who drops by here every day chipped in just $1, it would make a real difference to me.

And if not for me, give so I can bring Lucy home.

Miss Lucy

For those of you experiencing fatal failures with PayPal, I also have an Open Salon blog on which I post once in a blue moon. If you go to the most recent post you ought to be able to find a “tip” box at the bottom of the post, and this sends money to something that isn’t PayPal. I have no idea what kind of hoops that system makes you jump through, though.

In other news — today is election day, folks, and conventional wisdom says Dems will lose a lot of seats in Congress and probably lose the House altogether. Nate Silver says it is possible, if unlikely, that Dems could do better than expected and keep the House. It’s also possible Republicans could do better than expected.

Righties, who have a childlike inability to temper expectations, are already celebrating their blowout. And of course if they pick up fewer than the expected 50-60 seats in the House, they will be screaming about voter fraud.

  1. maha,
May parents and I are off to vote at the Middle School down the road.

Tomorrow I find out if my unemployment gets a little extension, in which case, I can drop a few sheckles later on in the week. I’ll try to donate something either way, if I can, but my NY State monthly tax payment is due (because my parents and I had the audacity to live off my 401K plan last year, which is now deceased).
I love you, and best of luck.

  2. I’m the biggest non-republican cheapskate that you let post on Mahablog, but out of a sense of guilt, I sent a meager donation in the hope you will let me continue to post my drivel on your site. May I recommend the lottery – that’s my retirement plan.

  3. Maha, I may not comment much but I read your blogs and you and the well spoken followers of this blog have not only kept me informed, but sane. My brain is not an island alone in a deep sea of conservative, racist, Obama haters. I can only pray that the Repubs got scared away by the rain and that the saner members of this community were not swayed by a little rain. If this state reelects Vitter, as I think it might, they deserve what they get. I am still in fear of the 2012 ticket being Jindal/Palin…it is a recurring nightmare of mine.

Tomorrow is the day I take my SS check and give it all away to keep a roof over my head and the tv, pc and phone on….I won’t have to get toilet paper, thanks to a great sale last month, so you will be getting my toilet paper money tomorrow and a little of my ‘mad’ money to help you get Miss Lucy home. Thank you all for all that you give me and I’m sure many, many other silent peeps out here in cyberland feel the same.
Kathleen in Baton Rouge, home of Bobby Jindal and David Vitter…sigh!

  4. O’ Donnell bit the dust!

Not a big surprise, but the prospect of an electoral fluke was frightening. She has the same mentality as 14th century religious fanatics who dug up the bones of heretics and burned them just to insure that they can impart the maximum amount of hate that can be delivered on this side of eternity.

  5. Maybe it would have helped O’Donnell if she HAD been a witch. No matter, she’s now off to the next phase of her Palin-wannabe career, being a right-wing gadfly and media celebrity on the basis of being not just unqualified, but anti-qualified. It’s probably what she really wants anyway. Win-win, as they say.

Barbara, I hope my small bit can help to get your car running and Miss Lucy home. Maybe we can all get you enough to lay away some canned goods before Rand Paul and his classmates get to DC and prevent an increase in the debt limit, sending the world economy off the rails. It’s gonna be a bumpy ride once these kooks get sworn in.
