Land of Hope and Crazy

If you missed the benefit concert on NBC last night, I thought this was the best part (even with microphone malfunction at the start):

And now, the crazy: Fox News accused NBC of holding an “Obama” concert in the guise of a benefit concert.

Update: The Breitbrats also are outraged. “Watch for the network to turn this into an ode to Obama’s grand and glorious leadership during Hurricane Sandy.” Worse, they called Bruce Springsteen an “old hack.” If they’d had any credibility to lose, that would have killed it.

For the record, I don’t recall that anyone mentioned President Obama or any other politician. I might have missed it, though.

  1. “Fox News accused NBC of holding an “Obama” concert”

Funny I watched most of the show and heard no mention of our president? It was a decent show, though you could tell it was a little low on production value, I guess that was to be expected on short notice. I like how FAUX wonders if it was rushed to influence the election. Yeah why hold the benefit now, why not wait a week or so, it’s not like people need the help right away? One thing I will mention is the Red Cross sucks, I went to their website to donate it was crashed for hours then when I finally did get through they would not take my donation without giving up more personal information than I was willing to give, I buy stuff online all the time and have never been asked for so much info. I will be looking for alternative ways to donate today.

  2. Sadly, I didn’t watch the concert.
My Mama may be Obama lovin’, but R&R is another story. Considering she had solo concerts of classical songs and aria’s at Carnegie Hall – TWICE! – I can understand her.

Did they cover one of the great NY R&R songs of all time, “Rockaway Beach,” by The Ramones?
    One, two, three, four
Chewing out a rhythm on my bubble gum
The sun is out and I want some
It’s not hard, not far to reach
We can hitch a ride to Rockaway Beach

Up on the roof, out on the street
Down in the playground the hot concrete
    Bus ride is too slow
They blast out the disco on the radio

    Rock rock Rockaway Beach
    Rock rock Rockaway Beach
    Rock rock Rockaway
We can hitch a ride to Rockaway Beach

    Rock rock Rockaway Beach
    Rock rock Rockaway Beach
    Rock rock Rockaway Beach
We can hitch a ride to Rockaway Beach

It’s not hard, not far to reach
We can hitch a ride to Rockaway Beach
It’s not hard, not far to reach
We can hitch a ride to ROCKAWAY BEACH

    Ah, memories…

  3. Well, the concert acts realy didn’t have to mention anything else to piss off the Foxtards and Breitbots. Reference to the storm cannot be made without consideration of the competence of the president in a crisis, indispensibility of FEMA (and by extension the federal government), and reality of climate change; all topics they consider anathema.

  4. I watched the concert last night, loved the songs. When I was very young, we vacationed on the Jersey shore at Long Branch and Atlantic City. I have memories of snitching dry ice from the ice cream man, the smell of the surf, crabs over linguini ( which I thought disgusting, but would kill for now) and a roller coaster called the wild mouse. I hope they raised a bunch of money; FOX is just plain EVIL.

  5. Worse, they called Bruce Springsteen an “old hack.”

This from a party where most of the celebrity endorsements are from cousin-marrying country music stars?

  6. Thanks for this. It brought home to me what Sandy means, in a very personal way. Decades ago, I had a girl from Jersey, back when Springsteen’s “Born To Run” was on everybody’s stereo, and we spent some time at the Shore.

Of course the artistically and morally challenged monkey brigade is going to denigrate The Boss, because he came out earlier for Obama. Keep saying stupid stuff, morons, let the whole country know what you really think.

  7. 1. Springsteen is a deep-dyed, small-D democrat, so of course he’s an “old hack.” Thank goodness.

    2. How much better those bass refrains of “Under the boardwalk!” would have been, if The Big Man were still with us.

    3. Carly Simon really, really needs a better cosmetic surgeon.

  8. Joan,
“Carly Simon really, really needs a better cosmetic surgeon.”

    ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. What they are acknowledging (without consciously knowing it) is that everything beneficial in this country comes from Liberals, and, by extension, the Democratic Party (though the vast majority of Democrats are not even close to “liberals.”).

Even THEY know they have a lousy party…

  10. Off topic, but did anyone happen to see Obama in Iowa today? His inner Clinton is coming out! I swear he has been watching footage of Clinton speaking and he has been trying out some of the material himself..he even did the finger thing..LOL.I just had to ask if anyone else noticed.

  11. Swami I voted friday also.. I went to the election office and cast my early ballot. When I arrived a lady was carrying an entire BOX of ballots and I thought to myself “geez I hope those are not all early cast ballots being taken out of the polling place headed for a dumpster” I am so jaded I couldn’t help it. The lady must have sensed my fear because she was quick to tell me that she was carrying out requested absentee ballots to still be mailed out! I wonder if she knew how badly I wanted to go rip one of them out of the open box to be sure.I hate hate hate not being able to be secure in the knowledge that EVERY vote will be counted.
I think we should start a new “thing”. This year at our polling places we have voter ID cards that can be used at check in with bar codes on them. I think we have come to a point where we need to be able to confirm our votes via these barcodes(or at least confirm we have voted) with our parties. I would feel better, say for example, if the dems knew how many votes they had(the right too). That way if the vote numbers didn’t match what had been reported to them via their voters they would know something was rotten and could fight…So after we vote we scan this barcode into our smart phone ( or by a code number we enter manually?) and we dial a automated phone number to confirm our vote with a party. I don’t know how it would work but if we had some system I would sure feel more at ease.

If they threw my vote out tomorrow I would never know. How could I fight to have my vote counted if there is no way to know if it even is? Faith based elections are not working for me.

  12. “good ole Christain music ”

Jesus hold my hand? How bout Jesus hold my barf bag, Jesus hold my hand while I lose faith in everything. Jesus hold my hand while I fall the fuck down.

  13. “Crank it up with some good ole”

When it comes to the mahablog: Swami has always been my favorite, but the songs that he is linking to cannot be forgiven, Swami leave bad enough alone. Stop enough already
