The NY Times Got the Tax Records

I haven’t read all this yet. See Long-Concealed Records Show Trump’s Chronic Losses and Years of Tax Avoidance.

The New York Times has obtained tax-return data extending over more than two decades for Mr. Trump and the hundreds of companies that make up his business organization, including detailed information from his first two years in office. It does not include his personal returns for 2018 or 2019. This article offers an overview of The Times’s findings; additional articles will be published in the coming weeks.

For a quickie summary, see 18 Revelations From a Trove of Trump Tax Records.

This is going to take some time to digest.

  1. Oh my,  I paid more taxes than Trump did for many years.  I must have a word with my accountant.

That is some exiting reading, and my hair person asks for $10 on Mondays, but I usually slip in a few extra.  I never even thing of deducting that, but who runs up an annual fee of 70K for bad hair cuts that won't stand up to the rain?  I guess those are tax deducible.

    My, my.

  2. Monday 9/28, tRUMP Press Secretary Stepford Barbie:

"Just another DemocRAT hoax!  Nothing to see here!  NOTHING!!! Our great PRESIDENT just kicked the ball out of the trap, and called it a joke! A joke.  A JOKE!!   He said IT'S A JOKE!!  A JOKE YOU BASTARDS!  A F'IN JOKE!!!!!  A joke.  Aaaa joo-ooo-ooloke… Whaa…"

    "Exit.  Pursued by a bear."

    • I would love to see her pursued by a bear. And eaten. Plastic barbie legs sticking out of bear's mouth.

    • "..The police were called by Parscale’s wife, Candice Parscale, who told the officers upon their arrival that “her husband was armed, had access to multiple firearms inside the residence and was threatening to harm himself.”

"Parscale was in the house with 10 guns and was inebriated when the police arrived, according to a police report released Monday. His wife had escaped the house after he cocked a gun and threatened suicide, the report said. Her arms were bruised, and she told officers that her husband had hit her days earlier, according to the police report.

"Parscale was eventually lured out of the house by an officer who knew him and his wife, and he was tackled to the ground by police after not adhering to commands to “get on the ground,” the report said. He was then handcuffed."

I must admit, it'sgreat to see a self-righteous, arrogant wingnut go berserk on himself..

  3. Anyone who works for a living will be pissed off at Trump only paying $750 in taxes.  I sure am, given what I pay.  But what's not real clear at this stage, unless I missed it, is whether what Trump paid is the result of illegal cheating, e.g. did he commit fraud by lying about his finances on tax forms?  Or, is his not having paid anything in 10 out of the last 15 years just another perk of wealth the government allows the wealthy that Trump just took advantage of?  In which case, as some on the right are starting to argue, makes Trump "smart" (an oxymoron for sure) because all of us want to pay as little as possible.  Unfortunately that's simultaneously the best and worst case for Trump, because if that is the case, then he is exposed as having been a horrible businessman, a loser, in order to be due those deductions.

Regardless of what happens now, I hope voters remember this the next time Congress takes up "tax reform," which lately has meant nothing more than giving more tax breaks to rich people and corporations.  Rarely has it meant anything relatively significant to working folk, and any benefits we get are a relative pittance next to what the wealthy walk away with, and at our expense.

Tax reform can't just be tinkering around the edges with fractions of percentage points and credits.  There has to be changes in how taxes are calculated and collected for working people, and provide working folk with at least the same less punitive options in dealing with the IRS on tax bills as the wealthy have.  Legal or not, it certainly is in no way "fair" that a "billionaire" who is good at losing money gets to not pay or even a refund for being bad at what they do.

  4. An outstanding share! I’ve just forwarded this onto a colleague who had been doing a little research on this.
