POTUS Persona Non Grata

-->
Bush Administration, McCain-Palin, Republican Party

Be sure to read Sidney Blumenthal’s account of the cancellation of Bush’s speech last night. The McCain campaign used Gustave to shove Bush off the program, and Bush is pissed.

In order that Bush and Cheney not seem to have been humiliated, McCain cancelled the entire proceedings for the first evening.

Almost certainly, Bush had to cancel his planned speech while Gustav loomed. But the sources say he didn’t like the idea and felt pushed. Bush is described by sources as “furious” at McCain for being deprived of his last appearance before his party, which nominated him twice, as a sitting president. He believes he is being treated disrespectfully.

Unless he’s been canceled again, Bush is supposed to speak to the convention tonight via satellite. But he’s not on the schedule on the RNC web site.

President who?

Meanwhile, McCain’s campaign manager, Rick Davis, told the Washington Post,

“This election is not about issues,” said Davis. “This election is about a composite view of what people take away from these candidates.”

Fascinating.

    That Rick Davis quote is pure platinum. We can’t make this stuff up. And it just keeps getting better:

    Apparently the current issue of “US” magazine (“People” for the trailer-park set) has a cover photo of Sarah Palin cuddling baby Trig, with a huge headline: “BABIES, LIES AND SCANDAL.” And a bullet list of some of those lies and scandals. A bullet list!

    Convention question: if last night’s theme was “Who Is John McCain” (and the program was, essentially, blank), what is tonight’s theme, with Bush via satellite? “Bush Is In Space”? (A lame Flight of the Conchords reference, for anyone who gets it.)

    ‘Tis a sad day when one’s own tribe throws one under the bus.
    Sad, but deserved.

    I’ve been thinking for some time that the Bush 2 presidency would be treated just like Highlander 2. Even the fans won’t admit it ever existed.

    “Highlander 2″ — ROFL! Nasty piece of work, that. Right up there with “Van Helsing.”

    SamFromUtah — LOL and you’re so right.

    I probably shouldn’t say this, but… the only thing I can think about how Bush is being treated is the old phrase with multiple meanings… “With all due respect”.
