  1. A fart in the wind…
His statement about rolling back the borders to those of ’67 will never happen, especially when he mandated Fatah and Hamas to stop their resistance.
He must realize that a Palistinean state with the ’68 borders will never happen. The Israeli lobby is too powerful, and the Christian zionists in this country will never allow it.
If you think universal heath care in the U.S. is a big issue, the situation in the Levant dwarfs it by a mega bleem. The Israeli right will not be satisfied until the last Palistinean is an exhibit in a zoo.
Images of wounded Palistineans beamed across the Muslim world inflames constantly.
Until the Likud and Bibi are gone, this will not change, and our tax dollars will continue to support this sinkhole which threatens the entire globe.
Israel under Bibi is an apartheid state. NOTHING will change, and our tax dollars support the insanity.
One day I hope we have a president with balls who says knock off the shit, or we cut your aid entirely, fat chance……….

  2. Without knowing anything, the fact that Obama is starting out from a position quite different from the one pushed by the Bush admin, is, on the face of it, probably a good thing. It’s interesting that he states this position in advance of Netanyahu’s arrival tomorrow – should be a contentious weekend for both of them. I’m not sure it will really amount to much (I hope I’m wrong here).

OT, since we’ve been talking about music, hear some fine voices parody an old Coca Cola commercial, I’d like to buy..the Kochs a world..so they’d leave ours alone…

  3. Obama is right in saying that Israel should return to their 1967 borders, it’s the only possibility to settle the Palestinian issue…But the probabilty of that ever happening is about zero… It all sounds good until Bebe tells him to stuff in his ….

    It’s just more false hope!

    Amen! 🙂

  5. “The Israeli right will not be satisfied until the last Palistinean is an exhibit in a zoo.”

And the zoo has a fire.

I supported Israel for a long time. But it’s growing been tougher and tougher when the bullied become the bullies. And that’s where we stand now.
Israel is an apartheid state. And for it’s own good, it needs to work towards a two state solution. The Palestinians are not angels in any of this. And frankly, not a lot of Arab states have been of any help here. For the life of me though I can’t see why both sides don’t see the 2 state solution as the best option. Hell, it’s the only option.

I wonder how long it will be before Donald Douglass, AmericanNeoclown, will appear here to chastise those of us criticizing Israel? But, maybe he’s still busy looking for Sasquatch at a kibbuts over there.

  6. I didn’t know Lithgow had that much over-actor in him.

BTW – my absolute favoite over-actor of all time is Peter O’Toole, who’s also my favorite actor and a GREAT ONE!

My others are Shatner and Yul Brenner – great over-actors, who were just that, GREAT over-actors, but a Hell of a lot of fun to watch when they were chewing up scenery like buzz saws going through dandelion fields.

Just to harp on a technicality, Obama didn’t say “return to the 1967 borders”. He said that the 1967 borders had to be the initial basis for discussion. New borders should be set, based upon those borders, that guarantee security on both sides.

I think it’s much too optimistic to think that will happen, but declaring that all of the land is Israel’s hasn’t worked either.

  8. I was a little surprised by the press coverage afterwards, although I guess I really shouldn’t have been. But I heard the first half hour of the speech on NPR, which was all about the Arab uprisings, and what the US is going to do to support and encourage a transition to real democracy. It was about rejecting both Al Qaeda and the old dictatorships, and offering our nation’s support to the people of Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, Libya, Iran, and Syria as they try to build a better life for themselves. And then I looked at the press coverage and found out that the whole thing was actually about Israel.

Aw, who you gonna believe? Media or your own ears?

  9. Poor Obama!…His little foray into the Middle East peace talk process didn’t go so well.Bibi was very displeased with Obama trying to tinker with things he knows nothing about…Bibi gave him some good advice though..” Don’t let your mouth write no checks that your ass can’t cash, chump!”
