Republicans for a Wasteful, Bloated Government Spending Program

I had heard that the Senate was about to vote on the immigration reform bill, but I’m watching C-Span, and Sen. Jeff Sessions (Neanderthal-Alabama) is speaking against cloture. So I don’t know what’s going on with that. Word is that the bill will pass reasonably easily in the Senate but most likely will die in the House.

Senate Republicans are getting on board because the bill includes $4.5 billion in new border-security technology spending, a provision that Sen. Patrick Leahy calls “a Christmas wish list for Halliburton.” Well, it’s not like we need money for anything else.

Greg Sargent says the bill could pass in the House, but only if speaker Boehner allows it to come to a vote, knowing that more Dems than Republicans will vote for it.

  1. Yes, let’s spend more and more money on securing the borders of a nation with less and less inside of it that’s worth securing.

We don’t need more, and better, education for our children. Or railroads, or bridges and roads fixed, or public transportation.

No, let’s throw billions of money at Military Industrial Complex corporations, who’ll hire a few thousand low-wage security personnel, to guard our precious border.

    Me?
If they’d take me, I’d gladly cross our Northern border, into Canada.

But, if they’re smart, they’ll start building up a border fence with the US, because there may eventually be a whole lot of us willing to take our chances, by moving North to Canada, and trying to live as undocumented workers up there.
They have less lawns to mow, and bushes to prune – but a hell of a lot of snow that needs shoveling. 😉
It’s just too bad I’m too physically handicapped to help to do that, or I would.

  2. I wonder if Rudy Giuliani and Bernie Kerik will get some of that pie.. Those 20,000 additional border agents won’t be fully accoutered without stun guns. Well, maybe not Bernie.. he might have cashed in his stun gun stock to pay for the renovations he forgot to pay for the first time around.

  3. “Well, maybe not Bernie”

Hey he just got out of the clink, I’m sure he could use some patriot pie!

  4. It really is astounding how blind they are to their own inconsistencies. I keep coming up with variations on the theme “Republicans want a small, limited government that …”

Republicans want a small, limited government that makes sure not a single person crosses a 2,000 mile border without written permission.

Republicans want a small, limited government that won’t allow rape victims to get abortions unless they report the rapes within 48 hours.

And so on. At least the Paulistas are consistent on foreign policy, but there are other Republicans who want a small, limited government that maintains an indefinite military presence in the Middle East.

On the other hand, given how much money the bill would save us, I’m not really too bent about the Christmas gift to Halliburton. At least the money’s going to be wasted here at home rather than in Iraq.

  5. “Patriot pie.” Oh YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’d like mine with some red white and blue liberty whip and some southern fried nuts!
