GOAL REACHED! I can now spring my laptop out of jail, hopefully no later than tomorrow. Thanks everybody!

Help! I don’t know if anyone is still checking back here, but the laptop is still in the shop. I finally got a repair estimate of $500, which is for data recovery and a new hard drive. After I made some choking sounds the techie offered to look for a refurbished hard drive that would be cheaper.. Anyway if I can scrape up the money I may be able to get it back Saturday. Some of you already donated ( see donation links on the top right-hand column, home page) and I appreciate that very much. With some difficulty I also set up a go fund me page. The link below should go to it.

  1. Hang in there, Barbara.  I'm so grateful that you subscribe to all those things that I can't.  Your writings and reading suggestions are a big help to me, along with the welcome commenters.

  2. Lurker here. I've depended on your insights for many years and I hope my measly contribution to the bail for the laptop helped. Keep up the great work, please!

  3. Do not miss Maureen Dowd today in the NYT.

Trump, who often casts by looks, may have liked Hegseth’s slick style and pretty face. But even the Emperor of Chaos must realize this Princess of Chaos has to go.

    That your tease.

  4.  A man was arrested for menacing some anti-musk protesters in upstate NY:

A political protest in downtown Glens Falls took a dangerous turn on Saturday, according to police and community members across social media, when a man was arrested for allegedly brandishing a chainsaw.

The Glens Falls Police Department received multiple calls about a male waving a chainsaw in the air during the protest. Officers quickly responded and identified the suspect as 62-year-old Thomas J. Howard, of Glens Falls.
