The Next Day

It’s been a whole day since the Boston bombing. The Murdoch/tabloid press is still flogging the story that a Saudi national is behind the bombing, and the usual idiots among rightie bloggers have even posted photographs of a person they say is the bomber. Official sources are not saying any such thing.

My Hero of the Day is a fellow who bought the domain name bostonmarathonconspiracy.com just so the whackjobs couldn’t use it. Thank you, sir.

He said,

Sadly, one of my first thoughts was that it would only be a matter of hours before a certain group of people would begin to say it was a government conspiracy; an act of terror on our own people for political gain. It’s sickening, but take a look at the massive numbers of 9/11 conspiracy nuts…people who think Bush and the gang took down the twin towers and ended the lives of nearly 3000 people so we could go to war. The heartless and sick Sandy Hook conspiracy theorists who think the Obama administration killed kindergartners to bolster the gun control debate. And there are plenty of others. Well, I was wrong. It didn’t take hours…it took minutes.

I wrote some more about the bombing at the other blog.

  1. The TV news will be evem MORE virtually unwatchable for the next few hours/days/weeks – until the FBI, the ATF, and other agencies, local and national, and if need be, international, finally find out who did it.

Cable TV news, with 24 hours to fill, will be nothing but ‘Blood, Sweat, and Tears P*rn,’ describing the stories of the bloodied victims, the people working hard to find out who did it, and the family members and friends, affected by the new ‘Boston Masssacre.’

Also be on the lookout for the new generation of “Young ‘uns” in the MSM, who were either too young to be involved in it, or weren’t prominent enough back then to warrant much face-time, and watch them as they try to turn this ‘Boston Massacre’ into their own personal 9/11, in an attempt to “make” it to the top, and get to the pinnacle of the MSM heap.

And while law enforcement people try to find out who did it, every imbecile with a tongue, or access to broadband, will be stomping on everyone else, to direct attention to themselves.

Some people, of course, already have megaphones and microphones ready, willing, and able, to fill any void with their trademarked brand of lunacy and propaganda.
In the forefront of that group, will be the Rush’s, the Geller’s, the Savage’s, the Malkin’s, the Beck’s, etc., whipping up fear and hatred – all for shits and giggles, and profits.

Let the law enforment people do what they do best. Under the right leadership, they are remarkable at being able to find out who was responsible for acts of terrorism.

And having said that, it sure might be helpful right now if we had a permanent Director for ATF.
But of course, there’s a certain party out there that’s been blocking that, because… FreeDUMB!!! LiberTEA!!!

While we’re waiting to see how this all shakes out, let our thoughts go out to the great people of Boston.

If I can scrape up some spare change by the end of the month, I’ll send it to some charity to help the victims, since I’m sure not all of them have comprehensive health care.
But a reminder to anyone who are also thinking of donating – I’m sure that by the time the sun set yesterday, there were already dozens of sham charities created by soul-less grifters.
    So, ‘Donator Caveat Emptor.’

  2. Representative Michael McCaul, a Texas Republican who heads the House Homeland Security Committee, said the authorities believe that the explosives were similar to improvised explosive devices that have been used against American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

WOW, give that boy a cigar! How did he ever figure out it was an improvised explosive device? Don’t ever try to stump a Texas repug..they’re just too sharp when it comes to determining similarities. It must be al-Qaida or an affiliate who made the bomb.

Stupid by birth… Conservative by the grace of God.

  3. I’ve already seen a couple of rightie bloggers blame Obama. It’s because Obama is a secret Muslim who hates America and coddles terrorists that Saudi jihadis were able to pull this off. If President Bush or Sarah Palin had been running the country, this would never have happened. Remember, we never had an act of terrorism in America when Bush was in office.

Or something like that. If I wanted to parody the righties, I don’t think I could do a better job than what they say themselves.

  4. It might take a little doing, but the odds of whoever planted those bombs going undetected by way of photographs or video or surveillance video are about zero. I bet whoever it is they will be in custody by the end of next week.

I’d be looking for somebody in the crowd wearing a tri-corn hat and carrying a Gadsden flag.

  6. I know that this sounds terrible, and I probably shouldn’t say this, but the Conservatives and Republicans in this country finally got their long awaited terrorist act here, in the USofA, under President Barack Hussein Obama.

What’s probably sad from from their POV, is that the body count is so low.

They will, of course deny this.
But they will, of course, still try to use this to their advantage – once they figure out how to do it without any glee showing, and that it’s not some rightie group with the Gadsden Flag, or ‘The Stars ‘n Bars.”
Once it can be proven that it’s a Muslim individual, or Muslim group, they will go to town. Forgetting, of course, that the worst terrorist act in this countries history occured under their, then, beloved Cheney-W. Bush mis-administration.

I’m watching Cup O’ Schmoe, Katty Kay of the BBC is on, and she’s saying the reason they caught the terrorists in England so quickly 8 years ago, is because they have CCTV (Closed Cirquit TV) camera’s all over London, and had pictures of them entering bus and subway stations.

We already have them in high traffic areas in some of our major cities. Now, I expect more.
So, I’m pretty sure that we can look forward to more erosion of Civil Liberties.

  7. Well, it looks like no gun control legislation will pass today.

My bet is that, instead of passing that, they’ll vote for the registration of all pressure-cookers, and limit the sales of them:
“The Boston Pressure-cooker Patriot Act of 2013!”

2 large deluxe models per purchase for white people.
1 small one per purchase for all others.

You can walk around with all the guns you want.
But no open-carrying of pressure-cookers – especially if you ain’t the older Grandmotherly type.
Back to reheating stuff at the church social with sterno and aluminum tins.

  8. I suppose that as usual, it will take a while for things to settle down and facts to overtake rumor and misinformation. I read that the bomb was made with black powder, which was a “puzzlement” unless it was used for symbolic purposes. But, NPR had a chemist who worked for Homeland Security, and she said that was unconfirmed and that the identification was based on the way the area “smelled of sulphur” after the explosion, and that that smell didn’t narrow it down to black powder.

Hey, the Rodney Crowell/Waylon Jennings link brought this fellow to mind. A friend of mine played with him for a few years, in his house band, he didn’t get to record with him. I liked him quite a lot in my late country music days, before Elvis Costello brought me to “New Wave”. His story ends like a country song. Evidently, Bob Dylan really liked this song.

  9. It seems they got the person responible for the bombing already. Didn’t take them long…We’ll have to see if it was a Teabagger, but seeing how they used a pressure cooker to create their bomb, there’s a strong possiblity they are employed in the banking industry.

  10. It seems they got the person responible for the bombing already.

Or… no. Yes? No? Come on, which is it?!

It appears CNN got a little overexcited once again, and is retracting its announcement of a suspect in custody.

  11. Swami,
    NOPE!
CNN, who everyone was citing as the source that a suspect wes in custody, just recanted it.
Now, it’s, “Conflicting Reports On Reports In Boston.”

    So, let the speculation continue!!!

  12. joan,
Until being the first to be RIGHT with a story, becomes more important than just being first, we’ll keep getting this nonsense.

And even when they do first identify a suspect, I always remind people of poor Richard Jewell.

  13. There was another discussion on NPR and evidently black powder is often used in the type of bombs in question.

So, only ONE thing is perfectly clear to me at this point. I have virtually no knowledge of bombs and explosives and I should resist the urge to conjecture. I did have a lot of fun with vinegar and baking soda when I was a lad and those cool flour explosion devices I learned about from “Mr. Wizard”.

Thanks, uncledad. Gary Stewart wrote a lot of songs in that same vein. He had a string of hits, but, decided stick around Fort Pierce instead of touring. That’s where my friend played with him. Wikipedia has a slightly different, and more tragic tale about the end of his life. I was kind of sorry I looked it up. Check out some of his other stuff.

  14. Well, I know it wasn’t Colonel Mustard in the library with a candle stick,so I’ll say it’s a teabagger with black powder in a pressure cooker.

I don’t want to be insensitive to those who were killed or injured, but at the end of this episode we’re gonna see that this bombing will be the result of right wing rhetoric. You can’t pump people’s heads full of ideas that they’re being oppressed by liberals without expecting that fear to manifest in some sort of violence..Glenn Beck,Wayne Lapierre, Rush Limp-pud, and a thousand other clowns who spur the weak minded on with their conspiracy bullshit. It’s the fruits of their labor.

Obama’s gonna take your guns! Patriots arise! The liberal’s are coming, the liberals are coming.

  15. Just a couple of things I have not seen mentioned: This is right wing nut week. The date of prior outbursts, such as the Ok city bombing is the 19th? Because of waco?.

And on “Patriots day” which means something different to normal people and to the people of Boston then it does to the right wing fringe. To them it’s a dog whistle.

If this were the act of an outside group they would have claimed responsibility by now it seems to me. Between this and the reports of ricin(sp?) letters it certainly looks like someone is trying to send a powerful message. Hmmmm what group has their panties in a bunch these days?

Is the only way to stop a bad guy with a bomb a good guy with a bomb? I ask because there were hundreds of the best “Good Guys” on the streets with guns we have in the nation.
