“A Serious Problem With Reality”

Barney Frank is on Maddow’s right now saying that a large number of Republicans in the House have “a serious problem with reality … invincibly ignorant.” It’s a great rant, and if you missed it I’ll find the video and publish it here.

There are reports that President Obama and Speaker John Boehner are close to working out a deal, and other reports saying those reports are wrong. So I’m not even going to comment.

Moody’s Investors Service put five states on notice that they’ll be downgraded if the federal government is downgraded, because the states are dependent on high federal employment or have a high percentage of citizens on Medicaid. The states are Maryland, New Mexico, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Maddow says that the governor of Virginia has suddenly changed his tune about the debt ceiling and wants it raised asap.

  1. To the right, the Virginia governor is mad because even though Virginia has millions in surplus, they may get down graded. I saw that little bit from a teapartier post.

  2. yes and he is correct. The US has been buried in this news for weeks while the EU have decided on a bailout of Greece, which has resisted reality since 2004 to push their debt so far past their gdp and population that there is no way for them to become solvent even with the 30 yr pay back. When they go down or the US does then the $300 billion they owe the US and US banks will make our and the worlds problem worse, and if the US goes down also then the rest follow like dominio. The light at the end of the tunnel for greece is to sell off a lot of its real estate like beaches and other valued places. Wonder who will buy the Grand Canyon?

  3. Maybe the voters in Virginia will think to thank Eric Cantor for bringing home the bacon..Cantor can parade around with his tri-corn hat to impress his tea party buddies, or he can strap on his little Hubley six shooters and indulge in his young guns fantasy, but all the while, the voters of Virginia will know that Eric’s role playing comes with a heavy price.

  4. Please publish the Barney Franks video here. This is where I go for discussion. (I just woke up, so less coherent than usual, even).

  5. OOPS! I hit the send button while reaching for my coffee cup;
    The rest of the comment is about Foghorn Leghorn, but the effect is now ruined.
    Oh well, the day is still young.

  6. “…a serious problem with reality … invincibly ignorant.”

    Though accurate, the problem with calling them that is that they will only hear the word ‘invincibly’ and not the word ‘ignorant.’

    Nice turn of phrase, though.
