One Million Signatures to Recall Walker

One million recall petitions were filed today in Wisconsin, almost twice as many as needed to trigger a recall election against Gov. Scott Walker. The petitions have yet to be reviewed, of course, but a summer recall election seems pretty certain at this point.

A substantial number of recall petitions also were filed against Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch and four GOP state senators including Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald of Juneau.

Go, Wisconsin!

Gov. Walker was in New York City today for a fundraiser. Um, New York City?

Walker was scheduled to hold a New York City fundraiser Tuesday afternoon hosted by Maurice Greenberg, the founder of financial services corporation American International Group, according to a copy of the fundraising solicitation posted on the website of the New York Daily News.

Did you catch that, Wisconsin? Walker may be the best governor American International Group can buy, and the heck with Wisconsin’s residents.

  1. He’s been quoted as calling it a “power grab”, something he apparently knows a lot about. But I don’t think so. People just don’t like that he grabbed what was theirs and gave it away to the uber rich. If democracy works like it should all that moeny won’t help him. Why does an ex-politician need a fundraiser except to pay for tying this thing up in the courts? Isn’t that what he’s expecting to do. I hardly think the courts are going to resist the will of the people. Or will they?

  2. The WI SC from what I remember is not exactly the hotbed of Liberalism. I don’t know if this will eventually end up in the US SC, and we know about them.

But, regardless, right now, he’s trying to buy his rich friends time to continue raiding the public coffers.

He’s secure – he’s got a job in Wingnut Welfare for life.

  3. …Maurice Greenberg, the founder of financial services corporation American International Group, …

Ding, Ding, Ding… WRONG. Greenberg was the long-time head of AIG but the company was founded by Cornelius Vander Starr.

(This is what I remember from my work in fundraising; more information is not available at the moment, fact-checking is a little harder right now. The PR flack who wrote that press release probably just accepted information from Greenberg’s office and didn’t check any further. Greenberg was severed from AIG (and the Starr Foundation, IIRC) just before the financial crisis.)

  4. I think WI is going to be an all-out war, with the Republicans doing everything humanly possible, using every dirty trick in their rather extensive repertoire, to try to stop the recall.
    It will be U-G-L-Y!!!

  5. Its already started. We get to hear friendly Walker interviews from the two biggest radio stations in the state. One is just outright RW propaganda with Rush, Hannity and the local haters. The other calls itself ‘news’ but slams the Dems whenever they can and give softball questions to Walker when he’s on. They also run some local hate guys as well. Free advertising for Walker, non-stop. Where is the Fairness Doctrine? We need it now more than ever.
