GOP: Let Grandma Eat (Cold) Cat Food

They were so outraged that Grandma might be denied a heart transplant by President Obama’s completely fictional death panels. Now a Republican-contolled House panel has voted to cut Meals on Wheels.

Well, there are priorities, see.

The heartless GOP, led by Private Ryan in the House, wants to cut $260B in domestic spending to shield the Pentagon from automatic budget cuts at the end of the year. Those programs include food stamps, Medicaid and the child tax credit.

Even the GOP cheerleader Wall Street Journal today reported the severity of the slashing, pointing out that Ryan’s plan would strip funding from the “Meals on Wheels” program. Geez, that’s way over the top.

The rampage continued today as the GOP blocked a Democratic bill to prevent the doubling of interest rates on student loans. Without Senate action, the interest rate will rise to 6.8 percent on July 1.

Hey, bedridden old folks are unlikely to vote, especially if they don’t have a proper voter ID.

  1. I guess Grandma’s going to have to starve to death.
And, with global warming, there are less and less ice flow’s for her to drift away on.

Wet cat food is way too expensive. Especially if there are SS and Food Stamp cuts.

And she can’t chew the dry stuff, which is less expensive, with her dentures. They’ll shatter into a million little pieces.

And if you water the dry stuff to soften it, it falls apart into it’s component elements:
50% – Animal and fish bones from processing plants.
30% – Leftover cardboard used to ship the bones.
10% – Bricks that have fallen from the buildings that process meat.
    9% – Roadkill.
    1% – Filler.*

This does not include pet food made in China, where the formula is slightly different. You lower some of the other percentages to include animal, chemical, and radioactive, toxins.
    Meow, meow, meow, indeed!

  2. Did anybody catch that recent story about an outbreak of salmonella poisoning from dog food ( dry mix)..Something like 14 people were poisoned in several states..The news article didn’t say whether people were eating the dog food..it just said that they had come in contact with the dog food…I’m no expert on salmonella poisoning, but it seemed suspicious to me that salmonella poisoning could effect that amount of people just by casual contact alone.

  3. Food stamp cuts??? Cut what?? The four dollars a day you get to eat on? Do you know how hard it is to eat healthy on four dollars for the day? Fresh fruits and veggies? Yeah right! Fish? Never. So you can afford a can of beefaroni’s now , what next half a can a day?

  4. Do the Republicans know about karma? They don’t seem to care, and they themselves may suffer the fate they wish on others.

  5. Yo, Swami, we got a robo call on that dog food recall, it was “Diamond” brand made in the future libertarian paradise of South Carolina. We purchased a “Diamond” product through Costco. It was DRY dog food, so it is probably true that people got salmonella from handling it. I should note that so far no Costco products have shown contamination.

At this point, it seems that the Republican party has gone berserk. In my darker moments, I think they might actually be aiming at destroying people’s faith in democracy itself. One of the snarky comedy sites had a rebuttal to a right wing article. The article took aim at silly, elitist liberals who foolishly believe that society can evolve by plan and design, instead of leaving the forging of society to the all knowing, all seeing, supremely moral Free Market, (blessing and peace be upon it). The question that immediately leaps to mind of course regards the input mechanism for this plan and design, isn’t that mechanism what we silly liberals call “democracy”?

Of course the Free Market, (B.P.O.I.) will not yield its secrets to the common stock of humanity such as ourselves. Fortunately, we have people like Mitt Romney, who, as a member of the new priestly class, would be willing and eager to act as intermediary, for the right remuneration of course.

  6. Really. I logged in to say that I have no words for this. Are we to assume that half the country goes along with this and similar?

  7. What really astounds me is that he claims that he’s honoring their “commitment” – but there is a commitment, signed into law, to reduce the deficit. He’s trying to renege on that commitment.
