Hey, Mitt — Politics Ain’t Beanbag

Mittens thinks his business record as well as his taxes should be off limits in the campaign.

Mitt Romney, battered by Democratic attacks over his Bain Capital record and taxes, is calling on President Obama to agree to a truce over his business career.

“Our campaign would be — helped immensely if we had an agreement between both campaigns that we were only going to talk about issues and that attacks based upon — business or family or taxes or things of that nature,” Romney said, according to excerpts of an upcoming interview with NBC’s Chuck Todd released Friday.

Romney said he would prefer the campaigns “only talk about issues,” and claimed that “our ads haven’t gone after the president personally. … We haven’t dredged up the old stuff that people talked about last time around. We haven’t gone after the personal things.”

Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul offered up a broader take on whether Romney was really suggesting that his career at Bain Capital — the crux of his argument that he is better equipped to handle the economy — should be considered off-limits.

First, since Mittens has been running on his business career, it’s not off limits. And if he’s not going to release his taxes, he needs to man up and take his lumps for it, and stop whining.

Second, Mitt’s anti-Obama ads are among the most dishonest campaign ads ever produced. For example,

Mitt’s anti-Obama welfare reform ad is a lie.

Mitt claimed the Obama campaign was trying to take voting rights away from servicemen and women — a lie.

The “you didn’t build that” ad — a deceitful fabrication.

I could go on. Basically, under Mitt’s Rules, he gets to lie with impunity, but the Obama campaign is not allowed to tell the truth about Mitt. I guess he thinks that’s the only way he can win.

  1. That statement from Mitt sounds like a threat to me.

Isn’t what he’s really saying “Lay off the attacks based on my taxes and record at Bain, or I’ll unleash the birthers and the “vetters” and we’ll start hitting you with Tony Rezko et al.”

(As if they would avoid using those if they thought they needed to.)

And, if we eliminate his time at Bain, what part of his record CAN we look at? When he was Governor of Mass.? His record on the economy there sucked, and I thought he didn’t want to discuss Romneycare.

And we can’t just talk about issues, because he’s taken different positions on so many issues that there’s not trusting any current position will last past the election.

The Romney campaign is flailing. I hope they can hold it together long enough to make it to the convention, and pick a VP.

  2. First I want to say I agree with biggerbox, that DOES sound like a threat to me, and not much of one either since no one gave a shit last time the right tried to stir the pot. So if we are correct I say bring it on bitch..eh I mean mitt. Do you have any idea of how much it will annoy people if mitt tries to dredge up the same crap no one cared about before?

I had a rightie voter who travels in my circle explain it to me like this: “Voting for mitt is about like picking up after my new puppy.I don’t WANT to pick it up but I have to.” Even the people voting for him are not thrilled to be doing it when they compare it to picking up feces. He is wearing thin with his own voters and I am ever so glad that the run for the white house started so early, because every day we get to know mitt a little better he is liked even less. My rightie voting friend is ready to just stay home and not vote all together and mitt has plenty of time to seal the deal by continuing to make a fool out of himself with comments like this. So I hope that was a threat on mitts part. Making good on it will cost him votes.

And Lynne’s comment is so right on target. It has NOTHING to do with Obama being mean. Mitt is applying for a job..and a pretty serious one!! If he cannot be vetted how in the hell can he even be a candidate for the job? Tax records , his prior work history with bain ARE part of vetting and why the hell it was not done BEFORE the party sets him out as their candidate is something I cannot wrap my head around. The party should demand such info before they decide he is suitable. If he doesn’t want to disclose the information he is welcome to take his name out of the hat. No one is forcing him to run. I have a HUGE problem with giving someone the job who won’t allow US to kick the tires. If I wanted a job as a bus driver but refused to take a drug screen would I still get the job? What we pay for car insurance(and who will carry our coverage ) is based on a credit report in part..thats just to drive a car, not get the launch codes.

I am , as an American voting consumer, mad as hell at the GOP for offering up a candidate that they have not even vetted!!It makes a joke of the entire process.I am shocked and sickened that the GOP would waste the American voters time with a candidate that they don’t even know is qualified.

To heck with what Obama wants…I the American voter want to know. I have a right to know. We all do. I want to know about his taxes, his messy time with Bain, his off shore accounts..I want to know it all. And then after all that if he has the right ideas to get this country back on track that other stuff would be out weighed.

If mitt were to win, it wouldn’t really be a win because it would be based on lies. Before he can claim the victim he should come clean with the voting public. Mean old Obama would have nothing “attack” on if poor little mitt had just come clean in the first place. And still could
Oh how I wish that there was a way for us the voters to sue for disclosure of those tax records. Talk about a need for freedom of information.
And can somebody tell me why the hell the media is allowing this? I caught “morning Joe” a few days last week and not even a mention about mitt and his refusal to disclose his complete tax returns. Not a word about how his IRA has gotten so large when there is suppose to be a cap on what one can add a year. It just seems to be accepted. Mitt gets a total pass on having to disclose how much he and his rich buddies STEAL from this country every year.If Americans only knew.
Do you hear a threat there rich guys? Perhaps this bloated ass was a bad idea for a candidate and is like shining a light on roaches. He is shedding too much light on what you are doing(STEALING from your country while leaving your fellow Americans in debt- just like Bain) and he could end up ruining this good gig you all have going. There is not a hard working, tax paying American in this country who wouldn’t agree we should TAKE all the money tucked away in off shore accounts by Americans and pay the damn debt with their STOLEN money.

Mitt romney, you want to make the average American pay a little more, have a little less so you can have more and pay nothing. You want to end planned parenthood which will prevent women who need health care from getting it. How do attacks get more “personal” than that?. If you want the job, disclose the complete tax returns so the voter can make a informed choice or step a side so a serious candidate can step in..
