Personal News

I’m making good progress on The Book. Of the eight chapters planned I have five finished and the sixth is about half finished. Seven and Eight are still mostly outlines. I started out thinking I would write about 20,000 words, and now I’m at 30,000. I think some of it’s not bad.

My Zen teacher, Jion Susan Postal, died last night of cancer. This was not unexpected. But i”m not that much in the mood to write about politics just now. So go ahead and comment on whatever.

  1. My condolences on your teacher. And politics can wait!

Congratulations on the writing; that sounds like some damn good work.

  2. http://news.yahoo.com/why-does-rand-paul-keep-bringing-monica-lewinsky-215536117.html

I kinda wonder why also. Not that I can’t understand the reasoning for his attacks, I just can’t understand the logic. If anything Hillary was a sympathetic figure in that ordeal and she handled it with grace. It seems to me that Rand Paul is the only one who is going to come away looking bad by pushing at the past. Who knows, maybe he just plagiarized an old repugicant talking point and is unaware that it is dated information.

Of course, no one with any sense, intelligence or even basic human decency would have used Monica to attack Hillary Clinton then, never mind now, which is why Rand Paul doesn’t have a problem with it.

  3. First, I second what lhw wrote.
As for rand Paul, the dude is off his rocker, and his followers are beyond help.

  4. maha,
Condolences on the passing of your Zen teacher.

As for that mop-topped fop, Bland RuPaul, when Jim Inhofe either passes away, or leaves the Senate, Bland will take his seat as the dumbest MFer in that august body – IF, he’s still around.
And that’s some pretty stiff competition, what with the other Red State Senators there!!!

  5. I am very sorry to hear about your teacher, it must be a devastating loss. I don’t have the temperament or the intellect for Zen. But, at the risk of sounding like an idiot, sometimes dying well is the last lesson someone can teach you. At least that was true in the case of my parents.

The book will probably be great, and there will be a lot of your teacher written into it.

  6. Maha, sorry about your teacher. Swami, maybe Randie doesn’t know anything about the whole impeachment thing, wasn’t he playing Aqua-Buddha back then, probably stoned out of his gourd? Seriously he knows he doesn’t stand a chance, most of these right-wing clowns know they don’t have a chance, they run because they crave the spotlight. Paul, Bachmann, Trump, Gingrich, Cain, Cruz, Lee, etc… they are all nothing more than political worlds Kardashians!

  7. “Sean Hannity is putting his NY home up for sale”

What a fucking clown, is there anything these goofballs won’t do for a little right-wing persecution publicity?

  8. Well, I hear that the British are very fond of Chris Christie. As a matter of fact I hear he’s going to be Knighted….Now he can be Sir Cumference.

  9. Kudos on the book. We are looking forward to it. Hurry, but take your time.

Regarding the passing of your teacher – I would hope if you feel the urge to write about how Zen regards death, and how the event has affected you, do share the post on Mahablog, or at least tell us to check the post on the other blog.

  10. My condolences on the death of your teacher.
Also my congratulations on your imminent book. I’ve written some books myself, and this is my favorite stage; the final gelling. May I ask its genre? Topic? Title?

  11. Very sorry to hear about your Zen teacher’s death.

Exciting article: 80,000 March in North Carolina Proudly Pushing Back Against Radical Right Agenda.

Article provides an excellent background to the historical forces at play in NC.
What is different about this confrontation, is that these marchers are unabashedly articulating a moral argument against the right. This is exactly what George Lakoff has been trying to get liberals to do, like forever. Until we can strongly speak our arguments in these terms, we’ll only enjoy marginal success at best. Lakoff teaches that we have to use moral language to uproot the conservative frames that have been implanted in peoples’ minds.

  12. gulag ..I was going to ask if you were angling for a free copy, but was reluctant to do so because I didn’t want to blow your ruse. Aside from that, I didn’t feel confident in asking such a question because I didn’t know how it would be perceived if you were serious.
On top of that I think Joanr16 would make a better candidate as a proofreader. She seems to have a slight edge over you in punctuation, spelling, and grammar. 🙂

  13. Maybe Maha can include him in the book’s dedication.. To Gulag, whose blog comments were instrumental in understanding religions necessity for creating a savior.

  14. uncledad .. That’s not original. I plagiarized* it just like Rand Paul does. But the reason they call him Sir Cumference is because he ate too much Pi.

    * but unlike Rand Paul I modified the delivery to disguise the plagiarism.

  15. “Sir Cumference” from “Fractured Fairy Tales” if I recall correctly. along with Maynard G. Krebs, the chief cultural influences of my childhood.

  16. “Gulag can proofread – he just doesn’t grok apostrophes.”
    OY!
    Right.
Those f’in things are the bane (Bain?) of my existence.

  17. Gulag — a lot of people have trouble using apostrophes all over the internet, including people who are otherwise very good writers. (You are a good writer and very creative and imaginative in how you express yourself.)

  18. On top of that I think Joanr16 would make a better candidate as a proofreader. She seems to have a slight edge over you in punctuation, spelling, and grammar.

Oy, hardly! However, I would volunteer to follow Gulag through the text, gobbling extra apostrophes kinda like Ms. Pac-Man. Wakka wakka wakka….
