  1. I was wondering if he would make, “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me.” But, I missed the broadcast, so I’ll have to wait myself.

There is something about the image of a single man flying in on a gyrocopter that is really remarkable. I would think that it might have some holding power. I keep my facebook list of friends small. But, I posted the Chris Matthews segment and the response was positive. This isn’t a right vs left issue. This is something that we should all support, and that’s the way I am going to discuss it when it comes up. We are terribly divided in our country, but as long as we keep fighting each other, we’re distracted from the central issue of corruption, and the grifters keep winning.

Somehow, we have the notion that some billionaires are with us and some are against us, and there might even be some truth to that. But, democracy shouldn’t tolerate middlemen.

How do you go about building a gyrocopter? It seems like quite an accomplishment on top of everything else.

  2. goatherd,
With all due respect to the great Doug Hughes, there’s corruption, and then, THERE’S CORRUPTION!!!

Tammany Hall was as corrupt as hell!
Yet, they built a lot of what NYers still use to this day.

Corruption is bad, in and of itself – but it’s far worse, when the public doesn’t even benefit from it!

  3. Gulag: Now you have your old face back. How do you do it?
I love Doug. I will do everything I can to support him. Loved the cartoons on Balloon Juice. Also his comment when he was asked if he was a patriot: “I’m a mailman”. Exactly!! He was just delivering mail. How can anyone criticize that?

  4. Hey, you’ve got your old face back. I kind of missed it, although I do like the monocle.

Good point. That reminds me of the old song, “Muldoon, the Solid Man.” Unfortunately, something is on the fritz, so I can’t post a link.

The new serfdom will be a lot like the old serfdom.

  5. One of the other aspects of this story that I really like is that Doug WAS delivering mail. Everybody loves mailmen, but more than that, he was doing his job, and he found a way to make it a service to his country. When we were all kids, it was soon enough after WW II (the BIG one) that Americans doing their jobs were seen and respected for serving their country. We won the war with our productive capacity, and everyone who “did their bit.” We all had a job to do and together, we made a strong nation. That’s one of the concepts that we need to get back into fashion.

  6. Doug.. I went to your blog —http://thecivilistpapers.org/ — to make a donation, but the message that appeared when I clicked the donate button was that the recipient was no longer able to accept money. I’m not sure what that’s about. I assume it’s so that donations intended your defense are directed to the proper channel. Please provide an avenue to donate so that those who want to aid in your defense can do so.
I know attorneys aren’t cheap…My wallet recently crossed paths with an attorney an I know from experience that next to campaign finance reform attorney billing reform needs a serious look at. Anyway, provide a link to allow others to share your burden in some small way. Even if some aren’t able to financially contribute they can always be helpful in copying and pasting a link to donate to other blogs and web sites.

  7. Goatherd – You hit on an important point. I spent $250 on stamps so that the letters were real, not a prop. The message is real, the letters had to be real. Doing it right was insignificant but faking the letters would been significant and it would have undermined my credibility and message.

  8. Doug, it seems you did everything beautifully, and that will pay off, if there is any justice left in the world.

You did make “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me.”
