It may be that the most significant thing that happened today is Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp deciding not to run for the Senate in 2026. This boosts incumbent Jon Ossoff’s chances considerably. The future of this country depends on a Democratic-led House and Senate starting January 2027. I haven’t heard why Kemp decided to not run, but I can speculate that he just plain doesn’t want any part of the mess Congress is now,
Meanwhile, Trump seems to have fully entered Mad King mode. He’s putting a tariff on foreign-made movies. Hollywood filmmakers have no idea how this would work. He doesn’t know if he has to uphold the Constitution. He doesn’t know anything. And the sanewashing continues.
A federal judge on Monday ordered the North Carolina Board of Elections to certify the Democratic incumbent’s victory in a State Supreme Court race, rejecting a monthslong effort from the Republican challenger to throw out tens of thousands of votes.
I really thought the Republicans were going to get away with stealing this election. But the people prevailed. There will be an appeal, no doubt, so perhaps we shouldn’t celebrate just yet.
More tomorrow.
In terms of news, on Sunday, Trump confirmed that there will be a parade from the Pentagon on Flag Day, which is also Trump's birthday. Some permitting details were released last week through FOI. I don't think the route has been announced, but if the party does not pass by the White House, I'll eat my hat.
This fits in perfectly wth Trump's view of politics as a reality show that he directs. It's all about him, but the taxpayers foot the bill for a media extravaganza Trump plans to star in. But oddly, that's not the way Trump spun it. "They" decided to have a parade on Flag Day which just happens to be my birthday. Isn't that a quaint coincidence?
Since I do not think Trump has discovered humility, I looked for other motives for Trump downplaying his involvement. IMO, Trump is already deep in scripting the event for his own glory. But Trump hates it when Democrats rain on his parade, so he's trying not to give so much advance notice with details of how the parade will become the Trump Show. Trump wants to keep the spotlight – if his opposition outnumbers (by several factors) his supporters, the event becomes a stage for the opposition.
BTW, Flag Day is the tenth anniversary of my reporting to prison. Yes, I'm planning to be there.
