  1. It sure made for a burst of after-hours trading in Disney stock.  Kimmel is free.  How free?  We will know more tomorrow night.

  2. Disney made NO mention of First Amendment issues or the overt FCC threat. Looks like Disney wants the boycott to end without offense to Trump.

    Screw that.

    • It looks like a deal designed by lawyers, Disney announces that Kimell is back. Actually, he's back on ABC, owned by Disney. Sinclair is not going to broadcast Kimell on their 90 ABC stations. Presumably, Sinclair is allowed to operate independently, even though they are owned by – you-guessed-it – Disney.

Maybe this is how things work – after all, the DOJ and the Federal Reserve Board operate independently of the Executive branch, right?

Disney is probably telling Trump that he actually won because Sinclair has cancelled Kimell in 92 big markets. I have heard no apology from Kimell – his guest will be Gov Newsome tomorrow, do there's no sign of moderation. Trump will tune in to see if he's roasted or praised and it will be the former, not with a torch. Kimell will use a solid rocket booster salvaged from the Space Shuttle.

Trump will not be convinced this was a victory for him and he WILL want scalps. Sinclair will be in the clear. I'm not clear on the jurisdiction of the FCC re internet broadcast. But Trump will be livid.

Here's where Disney is playing their hand badly. They COULD have claimed the mantle of defender of the First Amendment and promised Trump they have the deep pockets to take every federal decision to the USSC. Disney COULD have called the other networks to gather under the banner of the Mouse or be known Quislings. (Which would require explanation.) And they'd get about the same hassle that they will get anyway, but they will get no credit for failing to stand up for Democracy.

  3. Of course I'm thrilled that Jimmy is back. Over the weekend, I was hearing that 1) he doesn't need the money, and 2) was instead concerned about all the people working for him (I read that Guillermo started out as a security guard at a Hollywood studio). I was fantasizing that Kimmel would start suing, taking it all the way to the Supreme Court, not to win anything except to shower mountains of bad publicity on the fascists.

I am concerned about the takeover of Tik-Tok, where young people hang out. It would be super easy to tweak the algorithm to shovel right-wing crap into your feed. I wonder how long it will be before this platform is ruined, like Twitter/X, and people start to flee. I hope some sharp young engineers are working on a distributed (federated) alternative. This is the model used by Mastodon, which saw an influx of Twitter refugees when that platform got hosed.

  4. This lady is brilliant: CK Memorial Was Something Else. She points out that Erika Kirk is worse than her husband, and fits the pattern of an evil woman using her man as a tool. And Tucker Carlson's coded messges about Israel (Kirk had to die because he was calling for the Epstein file release, which Israel does not want to happen). And how people at the memorial were leaving as Trump was speaking. They didn't come for him.

    • I saw a bit of Erikkka (hey gulag) she comes across as phony as a three dollar bill. Fake face, fake personality, fake tears, a GQP star in the making for sure!

  5. Saw a bit of diaper don's UN speech, the same old same old tired hater bullshit, nothing new. Amazing to watch the bobble-head coverage and how seemingly surprised they are by his lack of civility and knowledge of global affairs. It's been almost ten fucking years of this buffoon acting like a three year old on the world stage and the corporate media is still waiting for him to act presidential!

    • Yeah, he doesn't want to act presidential. He wants to act Corleone-itial…  because after all he's a betting man and he's already bet $100,000,000 that Michael Corleone will beat Barack Obama in the upcoming WWE Smackdown show.
