Another Year

I’m not in the mood to celebrate, but if you are, enjoy and stay safe.

The coming year is likely to be an epic mess. But let’s hope that by this time next year we’ll be in a better place. In the meantime, I hope you all keep commenting here. It helps me and I hope it helps you.

  2. I'm gonna pull a Gulag and post multiple comments in a row.  Bowing to a 6-3 USSC decision, Trump is pulling the National Guard out. Naturally,  he's threatening to return as needed to fight crime. The USSC disagreed that the National Guard is an appropriate organization for crime fighting, so Trump is on thin ice.

    To cut to the chase, Trump wants to use the military to suppress protests. There will be another No Kings action in the Spring. I'm hoping for an even BIGGER turnout to show Trump he's in serious trouble for the midterms – and after. 

    Artists are bailing on the Kennedy Center. At this point, I read there's one show scheduled for the next six months. Trump wants and needs the takeover to be legitimized, and he's getting the opposite. A writer from South Park purchased the web domain for TrumpKennedyCenter and posted satirical content. In four years, I want him to get a Kennedy Center medal for comedy. In his parrody site, the Trump Kennedy Center has booked the Epstein Dancers.

     In a weird move, Trump is pulling a takeover of three municipal-type golf courses in the DC area. He's revoking a lease that the management company had. This will wind up in court. 

    True or not, Trump is in the news for all the wrong reasons. The demolition of the White House, the ballroom, the Kennedy Center, and nationalizing DC golf courses, probably to be named after him, are wrong priorities for MAGA. What would amuse MAGA, using the military to take over blue cities, is getting struck down by the USSC. DOJ is going after Trump's enemies – and failing. Jack Smith's testimony before the House was released today. I've only seen clips, but the move to claim Trump's indictments were somehow flawed is blowing up.

    MAGA is motivated by resentment of 'woke' values. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion ARE noble values that MAGA wants erased. Going after formal DEI programs was easy (too easy), but erasing the values from the hearts and minds of a couple hundred millions of Americans won't happen in Trump's lifetime. Since schools were integrated and employment blocks removed over the last five decades, we're less segregated than ever, tolerant of working with and for minorities. Trump is surrounded by bigots he chose, but they are NOT the majority.

    Bannon proposed a ten-year ban on immigration. So he's done the math. ICE managed to deport 200K this year, where the goal was one million. Legal setbacks and community resistance are not making it easier for ICE to meet quotas. I thik it will get even harder next year.The heavy-handed ICE tactics are VERY unpopular with non-MAGA voters as we round the turn to midterm elections.  (Watch Miller blow a gasket when Trump tells him to tone down the fascist roundups for a while.)

    Trump's physical and mental decline is soooo tempting to the wannabes in the wings. Trump does not know how weak he looks physically, but he's not 'getting' his enemies. He's tried, through DOJ, but the lack of a real crime is hindering the vengeance tour. MAGA expects Trump should be able to threaten his opponents as easily as they threatened Trump. The difference, it seems, is that Trump IS a criminal. The repeated failures to sustain even indictments are making that obvious. MAGA expects heads on pikes in front of the WH. They will lose confidence in Trump soon for the lack of retribution.

    Trump will need scapegoats for what's not going well. I think we'll see a lot of turnover in the blame game. Not everyone will take it well when they go from the inside (with money and power) to the outside on Trump's list of failures. I predict a good year for popcorn as they flail and enter the next round of White House Survivor.

  3. I suspect everything is going to come to a head this year. 47 wants an excuse for martial law, which would get rid of any remaining constraints. They tried all sorts of things in 2025, but the public mostly didn't take the bait. The public was peaceful during No Kings and ICE raids. The regime failed to pick up Charlie Kirk's followers, many of whom are gun nuts and not buying the government's story. Epstein is blowing up in their face, subtracting legions of Christian fundamentalists who would ordinarily be in their column.

    I expect health care is going to bring a lot of angry people into the streets. It would not surprise me if the regime salts these protests with agents provocateurs – again in an effort to declare martial law.

    After that, the only thing we can say is 47 is in serious decline, but resists leaving because the Presidency is like a shield that he doesn't want to forfeit. 

    The important thing for all of us is to not despair and give up, even though we're all tired. I think of how tired Zelinskyy must be, and yet with super human stamina, his country is defeating Russia. We have to be strong a while longer, and do all we can to get our country over the line in the November elections.

    It's about a system that doesn't care about its citizens, voting, platforms, progress – all that matters is securing power for the guy at the top. It's about Russia, but especially about what 47 and Project 2025 want to turn America into.

    It's especially about what this feels like after decades of living under it. Politics becomes like the weather, not something you can change, but something you endure.

    I think this guy is in Canada, I recognize some of the commercial businesses in the video. And the snow.

  6. My New Year was marked by having to pay one month of a quadrupled healthcare bill as a gap month until the new, affordable, high-deductable plan goes into effect… sacrificing two weeks pay so that we can have the luxury of health care for January. 

    Literally blackmail. 

    2026 should be the year of Single Payer healthcare, but it won't because the oligarchs made the decision that they need ALL the money. 2026 will be another year that they tell you that you are too uppity, don't work hard enough to deserve dignity, and now will be replaced by AI.

  8. The greater Bernie swore in Mamdani.  Here in flyover country the usual hate and bigot crowd has been activated to a panic state.  They do love to get their phobic chains pulled.  Xenophobia is the rage for them.  

    They really hate it when you respond with a watabout Epstein.

One down, three to go.  And if the next three are anything like the last, its going to be tough.  But the good news is anti Trump/GOP forces have shown effectiveness in pushing back.  And in 2026 we have an opportunity to further blunt the forces of fascism and hatred in the mid term elections.  Here's to hoping No Kings movement will be sustained and grow, and democrats will find ways to be more effective in opposition.
