Trump Sending Military Hospital Ship to Take Care of — Greenland?

This is right up there with the time Trump had billions of gallons of water released from California reservoirs in the mistaken belief the water would magically flow hundreds of miles south and put out the fires in Los Angeles. Which it didn’t.

This is a real Truth Social post, graphic and all.

The Fox News story on this embarrassment:

“Working with the fantastic Governor of Louisiana, Jeff Landry, we are going to send a great hospital boat to Greenland to take care of the many people who are sick, and not being taken care of there,” Trump wrote Saturday night on Truth Social. “It’s on the way!!!”

Gov. Landry was designated the special envoy to Greenland in December and held formal discussions of the road map of Trump’s designs to solidify Arctic security from threats from Russia or China.

Let us reflect on the fact that Greenland is on Denmark’s socialized health care system, which is a lot better than ours. In comparisons of health care systems among countries around the world, Denmark consistently ranks much higher than the U.S. And Louisiana is close to last among the states in providing health care to its citizens. The worst of the worst. In recent years about 10 percent of adults in Louisiana have had no health insurance — that’s probably higher now — whereas all citizens of Greenland get free health care.

The news comes as Denmark’s Joint Arctic Command evacuated a crew member who required urgent medical treatment from a U.S. submarine in Greenlandic waters, seven nautical miles outside of Greenland’s capital of Nuuk.

The crew member has been transferred to the Greenlandic health authorities via a Danish Defense Seahawk helicopter to a hospital in Nuuk, according to the Joint Arctic Command.

Some news stories are trying to spin Trump’s announcement by saying he had to send the hospital “boat” to take care of the sailor, but the sailor already is getting good care from a hospital in Greenland. Does Trump know there are hospitals in Greenland? Or does he imagine Greenland as some third world country with people living in igloos?

And how much does it cost to send a military hospital ship from Louisiana to Greenland, anyway?

The prime ministers of Greenland and Denmark have informed Trump that Greenland does not need his “boat.”  And of course this is being reported internationally, giving the world another example of what a clueless imbecile Trump is.

But I do hope he brags about sending the hospital “boat” to Greenland in his State of the Union address on Tuesday. Maybe the low-info Trump supporters will ask why he’s willing to provide health care to Greenlanders but not to Americans.

Update: It’s being reported that both U.S. Navy hospital ships – the U.S.S. Mercy and the U.S.S. Comfort — are currently docked at a maintenance facility, the Alabama Shipyard in Mobile. Both ships are currently receiving lots of maintenance. Neither is ready to go anywhere on short notice.

In other news — some guy tried to enter the “secure perimeter” at Mar-a-Lago with “what appeared to be a shotgun and a fuel can,” the Secret Service announced. The man was shot and killed by Secret Service and a local sheriff’s deputy, it says. Trump was elsewhere at the time.

  1. Trump will plug it into the SOTU as an example of humanitarian aid (which is why the world loves him), but the government of Denmark told Trump where to stick his 'boat.' I think that will be included in post-speech comments. I do hope someone asks if the ship is there to dispense immunizations.

My guess is that Greenland will prohibit shore leave for the crew, and nobody in Greenland will have any medical interest in the ship. If Denmark has time, they may scour Europe for any STD+ sex workers to take a temporary assignment in Greenland – visiting the ship, testing the beds, and infecting the USN.

  2. I'm making a connection between dissimilar issues. Feel free to tell me that I need my meds adjusted. DJT is still furious with the decision on tariffs and we're closing on the SOTU. The quesion in my mind is how far on a limb rump will go in denoucing the authority of the USSC to tell him ANYTHING. Put this in context. President Obama made it clear that he did not agree with Citizens United at the SOTU address.

The difference will be in what DJT says – or doesn't say. Obama made it clear that he thought the decision is wrong. The toddler-in-chief is tap-dancing on a declaration that the high court can't contradict a presidential edict. There was a mini-revolt in the House where three Republicans joined Democrats on a tariff resolution to reclaim authority.  Support is fracturing as popularity for tariffs tank. Now the USSC decision threatens from the other branch.  Absolute supremacy is at risk.

I've said before and I'll say again – You'll know that we're looking at the Battle of Waterloo when Trump calls out the military to suppress citizens in peaceful protest. The Pentagon is fully corrupted, but the military is not. That's why Kelly reminding the officer corps of their duty tto refuse an illegal order triggered threats of execution from the Oval Office. It's game over if the military honors the Constitution.

These are the dissimilar items – tariffs and the decision of the military to back a coup, or not. The break point for the career officer who swore to uphold the Constitution will be whether or not the POTUS is in flagrant violation of the Constitution. A general or admiral won't get the nuances of international trade, but they will understand if POTUS is giving the Supreme Court the middle finger. I can call the president lawless, but that don't make it so. Let lard-ass threaten the USSC for ruling against him, and the military has grounds to refuse the orders of a rogue president.

  3. The mental state of the union is so disorganized that it is not fit for prime time it seems.  Who would want to watch psychobabble that defies all sane washing anyway?  It could put one's own sanity at risk.  This is not going to be a speech school children will memorize to recite for any reason.  It will contain math more confusing than new math ever was, scores of misinformation, and economics beyond Voodoo level.  Over half will be hate-speech and fantastic claims of dubious achievements aimed at self-promotion and self-glorification.  Reruns are anticipated.

It will forebode our future as his prognosis seems quite poor and deteriorating.

Any comedy will be dark comedy at best.

The emergency mental health unit that Denmark might have been considering sending to the Capitol to help could be delayed or cancelled for weather concerns.  It was a nice gesture on their part anyway.  There was some talk that treatment at this point in time would be too late and ill-advised anyway. It is all just hearsay at best but might be all the dark comedy we get.
