Here’s a call already. Mark Warner has been re-elected to his Senate seat in Virginia, they’re saying on MS NOW.
The digital scanner glitch in Westchester County NY (see last post) appears to be an honest error.
“A change affecting a contest in one municipality required updated election programming, which was subsequently tested and deployed for early voting and for Election Day machines in that municipality,” the New York State Board of Elections said in an Election Day statement. “However, Election Day machines elsewhere in the county continued to use the original programming and therefore could not recognize and accept the ballots being used for Election Day.”
This will slow down counting of votes, obviously. My concern is that if Mike Lawler loses Trump will claim the glitch was a Democratic trick.
Another call: Jon Ossoff wins in Georgia.
Democrat Chris Pappas defeated Republican John Sununu for a Senate seat in New Hampshire.
A couple of incumbent House Deocrats in Florida have been re-elected in districts that had been gerrymandered to get rid of them. I’d say that’s a good sign for the Dems.
Democrat Roy Cooper won a Senate seat in North Carolina. That’s a flip.
Democrat Angie Nixon has lost the Senate race in Florida, but it was close.
Kathy Hochul has won the election for governor of New York, as expected.
Keisha Lance Bottoms will be the next governor of Georgia!
MS NOW has projected that Democrats have taken control of the House.
It look like it might be a while before any more Senate racces are called, so I’m going to take a break. But do keep commenting.
I’m back! Wow, It’s a rout! Bye-bye MAGA.
I woke up in time to see Abdul Ed-Sayed projected to win Michigan. I see Susan Collins has conceded to Troy Jackson.
Gina Hinojosa beat Greg Abbott? Sweet sweet sweet. I thought Talarico would win, but Greg Abbott must wonder what smacked him. Sorry not sorry, Elon.
Remember the five Texas House districts that were redistricted in favor of Republicans? Dems have won three of them and could win the other two.
Westchester County managed to count its votes, and Lawler is out.
I understand it could be several days before we know who won the Alaska senate race, but at least we don’t have to wait to learn if the Dems took the Senate. Because they did.
So far so good. More results soon. So back to chores. Might as well use some of this anxious energy for a good cause.
Trump will claim it was fraud. Fortunately, the paper ballots mean there is a trail for an audit. So the blowhard will only convince the faithful.
So far I'm mostly liking what I'm seeing. Angie Nixon is unfortunately 1-2 % points behind the R in Florida, with most of the votes counted. David Jolly (FL governor candidate) is also behind. But elsewhere it's looking good, but the night is young…
Someone in Texas said that Elon Musk's over the top, 9 figure donation to Ken Paxton's campaign has meant that every man, woman, child and dog received heavy, standout cardstock mailers showing ugly pictures of Talarico… and yet as of now Talarico has a nice lead. I wonder if this could prefigure another Musk disaster. A guy can hope.
One of the psychics I follow said the governor races are really important for 2028, because of the caustic nature of that upcoming race. It's important to get as many of our people in as possible.
Am sipping on some delicious French champagne, plus some terrific pumpkin cheesecake from Trader Joes. So glad I live in a town where there is a TJs.
Is Graham in trouble? Andrews up by 9 points with 65% in
Talrico up by 18 points with 38% in
Abdul up good with only 13% in
MI and ME counting slowly. Shit, ME closed first and has less than 10% counted?
Pretty sure ME is using Ranked Choice Voting for the Senate race, so it's harder to project totals from partial counts (unless it's a landslide, where they don't have to bother transferring votes from losing candidates).
Thrilled about Georgia – Jon Osoff won and Keisha Lance Bottom became the first black female governor. Everyone is reminding us that Stacy Abrams paved the way. I'm watching MSNOW and something called "VelshiCast". I like that it's mostly catchy music and very little talk. Dropped into the other channels, and it's old school, panels of people expounding on this or that detail.
Talarico did well among early ballots, and – surprise – day of voting. Maybe Musk's bux helped him today, the opposite of what Elon intended. I hope so.
Warm up the dancing bananas, their talking blue tsunami.
WE ARE AT 51!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still out and competitive – ME, MI, MN, AK
We have seven pickups in the House. GOP – zero
Talarico and Hinojosa win in Texas. Now I can sleep tonight. It was obviously my vote that put them over the line.
52 – Peggy Flanagan won in MN. Troy Jackson is pulling ahead in ME. I am nervous about El-Sayed. Thrilled that Talarico and Hinojosa won by huge margins in TX – one conservative fortress breached, all of Musk's dough couldn't stop it. Sad about Florida.
We did take Maine. We will take Michigan. We did take Minnesota. By their count, we are at 53. By my count, 54. Alaska is counting – up to 22%, Mary Peltola is up, but it's WAY early. I'm not staying up but maybe that's 55.
How do you spell 'Waterloo.'
There’s an old insult I direct at DJT. “Eat shit and bark at the moon.” Hope that gets through the filter.
The greatest impact of this may be the capture of the USSC.
What a lovely message to MAGA cultists:
Your day is over – there are 350 million of us, live with it.
Halleluiah, the truth IS marching on. We lived to see the promised land. A land looking way more promising than it did yesterday.
quote of the day:
Bolsonaro gonna have to flee the country he fled to.
(nycsouthpaw)
This is all great. But…
(puts on his conspiratorial 'They Make America Greedy, Corrupt, and Stupid Again' cap)
I'm a bit concerned that the Deep State (basically big money, as we all know), will try to double down on doing business as usual. This means, whatever they can to buy off and/or compromise as many of the elected as they can. Or failing that, blackmailing them and theirs with whatever nuggets of dark truthiness they can find.
If you get into this job, then we won’t let cowardice be an option.
(tosses the cap off, in disgust)
We'll have to be able to better, and more frequently and forcefully, isolate-n-shame the crap outta any Fettermans and Stevens' they find. But for now, I'll celebrate. Cautiously.
Florida was disappointing re. Jolly & Nixon, but I think state level R supermajorities might have taken a hit. Yes I was disappointed because I had hopes. But looking at Texas this time around, I have a new way of thinking about 2026 FL results: Consider Beto's loss in the TX senatorial race several years back. Maybe with FL, it's moving in the correct direction but will just take another 6-10 years to fully escape where the R's have taken it (i.e. same pattern as TX but delayed).
