No Vote

Boehner can’t get the votes in the House for his plan, which would have died in the Senate, anyway. They’ve just announced there will be no vote tonight. Interesting.

  1. Poor Boehner! I bet he rushed to his favorite watering hole to get his oil changed after tonight’s failed attempt.

I think Boehner would be wise to grab a hold on the Grand Bargain and let the baggers own a default..It’s time to separate the chaff from the wheat and there’s no better way then to let the baggers put their names on the default. Bachman is swearing by almighty God that she’ll never vote to raise the debt ceiling… That’s all well and good because she thinks she can hide among the crowd and find safety in her position, but if Boehner decides his best shot with the American public is to save the Repuglican party and cast off the extremist element of baggers, then her, and the rest of the ideological nutjobs stand to get some serious egg on their faces.

Maybe I’m just projecting a fantasy…but I’m hearing that about 80% of the American public are fed up with the bullshit, and are going to vent their anger on the ideologues who refuse to consider the damage they might cause the American people. If we default, the narrative will be that the Teabaggers are to blame. They can’t spin that stigma off because it’s already been written.

  2. Yup, you almost feel sorry for Ol’ Boehner…
I think this shows everyone again how good Pelosi was – and, I hate to give the devil his due, but Hoyer, too.

I bet soon-to-be former Speaker Boehner wishes he had old d-CON, now con, Tom Delay getting them little dawgies in line with his cattle prod.

The House is apparently going to try again today. Maybe Reid will try to get his bill through the Senate today.
Though it all looks like Kabuki to me. The Senate probably won’t pass the House’s bill, and the House probably won’t pass the Senate one. Though desperation may make some strange bedfellows. Both bills suck – but Boehners sucks worse.

Well Wall Street, how it lookin’ for ya now that it looks like the freaks you paid to see in the Freak Show are now the ringmasters in this 3-Ring Circus?
If people think jumping off a high cliff and taking others with them won’t hurt them, you can’t stop them from jumping. It’s just too bad that at the bottom of the cliff, they can’t be forced to clean up the mess that they created.

Mr. President, we all know you want to be loved and admired for your bipartisanship, but a bunch of stone-cold killers are holding America hostage and you have a bullet that may stop them – the 14th before the 2nd.
I know you hope that cooler heads will prevail before then. Ok, let’s wait.
But you’d better be prepared to use that bullet before 11:59pm on the 1st. People won’t think kindly of you if they think you may have had a way to stop the stone-cold killers, but decided to let them kill the hostages.

  3. If Boehner had looked across the aisle he may have rounded up enough Dems plus non-party Repugs by crafting a better bill. But, the damn fool didn’t do that.

  4. Chris Matthews got it right last night; the TeaTards have reasonable Repubs scared stupid.John McCain actually came across as reasonable, the majority of his brethren are radical nilists.

  5. It really scares me to hear that Pell Grants were a sticky point.

The Tea Party: “What do you *mean* we can’t eat that corn and wheat? You want to *plant* it next year? What kind of stupid idea is that!”

Rational Human Beings: “Uh… that’s kind of how it works. You save some seed, and you plant it and…”

TTP: “Corn and wheat are for *eating* not sticking in the dirty filthy ground after you’ve mixed in some cow poop and other disgusting stuff! And how do you expect us to *eat* next year if you throw all of our food in the *ground*?

RHB: “But that’s where food *comes* from…”

  6. OK… 24 Hours late… the House passes the bill. Its not the Boehner bill anymore regardless of what the media label is. Its the Tea Party bill. There was one significant change. The bill passed by the House REQUIRES that the Senate (and House) pass the Balanced Budget Amendment. The Boehner bill, when it WAS the Boehner bill only required a vote on the BBA.

Its nothing less than amazing to me that this provision isn’t getting discussed for the half-faced extortion that it is, for it presumes to DEMAND that the House can impose the outcome of future Senate vote as a provision of essential legislation. The blackmail isn’t implicit – its overtly described in the bill. And the MSM is skipping merely by it. If there is a history nerd in the house, has this EVER happened before in Congress?

  7. Doug, The Senate already killed Boehners lastest deal. Requiring the passage of a BBA was probably just another Teabagger tactic added in to insure a rejection and ultimately a default. It seems that crashing the economy is the teabagger’s overall objective.

  8. Swam – The BBA is the objective. After that, the Kotch Conspirators are done. With a permanent, irrevokable cap on taxes, we can divide the misery any way we want. Who shall we screw? Seniors or the poor? Maybe the environment can be sacrificed? They don’t need the Tea Party anymore. Who cares how gay marriage or abortion is settled. Those were wedge issues they needed to get shock troops.

Once the BBA is passed, they only need to maintain a margin of 13 states who will NOT vote for repeal. Piece of cake.

Democrats don’t get it. If the BBA is passed, we can get a majority in the House, a supermajority in the SENATE, a flaming progressive in the White House and be totally helpless to do anything because we would be unable to FUND anything.
